I see since we will be soldering springs to our drivers KRNASNBOY was right in asking about case pins. I'm assuming we will need to solder the case pin to the negative pin to make the case neutral diodes case nag. No big deal, just making sure.

9mm 445s don't have a case pin, I wonder how that would work.

Only if your driver is continuous GND. To be safe you can solder the case pin to the driver - input and connect the diode - to the driver - output.

So solder the case pin to where the battery neg would go?

That's what I had to do on my e2 , but instead I soldered to positive input to make it case positive.

Yep, its basically a very easy way to make a case connection.

The following method requires connectivity on the inside of the host.

For the E2s I've built, I was using red diodes. One of which was a 2 pin 685nm diode, so no case pen, it definitely complicated things.

I had one polarity going directly to the driver through the spring contact. I then attached another wire, stripped about 0.5-1.0" of the wire, spread it out, really frayed it, and sandwiched it between the module and host.

I ran the wire out of the module front, where the diode is pressed. I then screwed on the module backing, allowing one wire out the hole to go to the press button board. The other wire was between the module, and backing, I screwed the backing on over it for a good connection. Then sandwiched the wire between the module and the host.

Worked for the LPC-826 leadlight, 638nm leadlight, and the 685nm (two pin) WL E2 rebuild.

Just make sure you have room for the wire to move a bit while screwing the aluminum backing on, you don't want to rip the wire out of the driver. I actually screw the backing on over it to PREVENT it getting ripped out.

If that's not enough, wrap some electrical tape around the module, let it sit, apply pressure, then pull/rub the tape off. Basically, remove it whilst keeping the residue. This will let you hold the module in place and keep connectivity. Or you could try epoxy, but the gap may be too thin to cleanly use epoxy.

Sinner recommended getting pre wired dtr modules , but they have no case lead. So if we just solder the negative pin to the case and bridge the gap won't that make it case negative?

DTR's M140 diode comes with three leads. A red (+) a black (-) and white.

Is the white wire a case pin? or is it also isolated from the host? Just unused...

Yes the white lead is the case pin. But sinner recommended buying prewired modules and driver so we could just solder a spring on the driver. Bt when you buy a prewired driver , there is no case lead ( white lead ) only the two leads off the driver.

But like I said couldn't we just bridge the negative pin to the case???

Yeah the pin is there but no lead. I gues we will be soldering our own leads to run to the driver neg input . Unless dtr can leave it on upon request.

Yep, in fact it is actually recommended if you are your using a continuous ground driver

And just to be clear that is checked by the driver measuring no resistance on the negative side correct? Only resistance on the positive side.

Is an x drive continuous ground?

So if we do buy prewired drivers all we would have to do is bridge the gap then. Sorry Guys just want to be super sure me or anyone else doesn't waste any money on dead diodes!

Yep. if there is no resistance, then it it continuous GND.

Then you only need a positive driver input, and the case pin and negative pin can be bridged.

Nothing further has to be done to the driver
