The RGB LED powering this handsome desk lamp has the incredible power of providing a change of mood with the push of a button!

IMAGINE you are entertaining; your man or woman or friend is bored and wondering only a careless nothing in your company when suddenly the SMOOTH mode of the control circuit is engaged. A silky red seeps into the room and over 10 seconds slowly fades into a deeply enchanting blue. Eyes lock. And with alacrity; the game is changed.

An old Intel CPU heatsink serves as an excellent base, hefty and stable while making a wonderful xylephonic ring when dragged along by a finger.

The glass casing of the lamp is a broken Helium Neon laser. These lasers create light by exciting the helium neon atmosphere inside the interior-most tube with a large voltage and creating plasma! Wavelength and direction selective mirrors focus it into light that is emitted from the tip. That is not what this lamp does, its just cool. OK? ok.

The bottom of the lamp was removed and the old interior parts were cut and modified to serve as the heatsink and the housing. All components, including the glass, were cut and tooled and assembled completely by hand.

>16 colors
>Remote control lets you change color, mode, and brightness
>Select four modes on the remote : FLASH - STROBE - FADE - SMOOTH
>LED Heatsinked with thermal paste to the entire inner aluminum piece to ensure adequate heat distribution and long LED life
>6 foot cord to 110-120V USA wallplug
>4 holes in the base make the lamp mountable on wall or ceiling or on any surface desired
>One of a kind - hand made by an electrical engineer!

As proof of craftsmanship, here is another lamp I designed and built and sold utilizing a working HeNe laser. I have more working lasers and plan create more pursuing the theme of these two but time is precious; contact me if interested.

I offer a 6 month warranty on the operation of the device, normal terms. i.e. Warranty guarantees operation for 6 months. Warranty is void if the lamp is physically harmed (drop/hit) or disassembled in any way.

Price is 3 Bitcoin

Shipping to USA only.
Shipping included in price.

It looks cool but....some LEDs, a broken 20 dollar HeNe, a piece of metal, and some wiring? I could probably have a 16 color laser built for 3 bitcoin.

3 btc?

You would be pushing your luck at 0.3 btc.

I'm not suggesting that "artistic" creations can't fetch more than the sum of their parts, but you have to know your audience. A forum where 50% or more of the participants have the ability to make the same thing themselves is not an environment where you'll be able to swing $30 worth of parts into $1350.

That's nearly a 50 to 1 profit margin - ie, almost five-thousand percent markup. You're orders of magnitude high.

Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to view and respond to my listing.

You're asking roughly $1350 for this?
I am not truly concerned with the USD valuation of bitcoin currently. Bitcoins are worth different amounts to different people (i.e. people who bought bitcoins at $0.3 versus at $600 are less attached to their USD valuation) and I would rather start high and find an appreciative buyer then drop my price later if I am unsuccessful.

No need to explain the psychology of my posting but know that I am also quite content to keep it on my desk and enjoy its luscious lighting.

Thank you! I think it looks cool too! Its a single 3W RGB LED.
Approximately 8 hours of work went into extracting the HeNe, hand cutting and sanding the glass casing to remove the broken glass on the tube's interior, forming the base and creating the RGB control circuit.

Hi there! Thank you for your input I truly appreciate it.

The technical ability to produce a piece is not beyond the realm of many people on this forum or especially the world but that has little influence on my pricing scheme.

I feel pride in this lamp, I made it with my hands and with hours of my life and I truly enjoy the way it looks and the function it provides. If price is so dear a concern, one may purchase a mass produced lamp from China for $100 that might do something similar, but it will also be in 100,000 other homes and spaces across the world.

The price for a piece so esoterically useful as a lamp must consider not only the price of the components involved but the time and vision of the artisan to fabricate something from nothing.

My orders or magnitude are the same as yours. Decimals move.

For 3 bitcoin you are including the amp and guitars, right?

HAHA, The DanElectro isn't mine or I would give the thing to you and I must say that the Fender Deluxe 85 is one of the muddiest and worst sounding Fender amps I have ever used. It works better as a display stand for the lamp than an amp, but I digress.

The Taylor dreadnought acoustic to its left, however, is my baby and that I would only sell for maybe 30 Btc. ;)

Thank you for all your input and I appreciate any offers. Please PM me if interested in this or another project.

Hope everyone is well,

That thing is awesome! But.... 3 bitcoin?!

I understand what you mean about BTC being worth more/less to different people, but as of right now, 3BTC = $1,355 USD.

You might want to reconsider your pricing to attract a larger range of buyers. Maybe say something like "3 bitcoin, or make offer in USD."

Hope that helps, and good luck with the sale! :yh:

If a bitcoin is worth $450, no one is thinking "I bought this for $3, so even though I can exchange it right now for $450, I only value it at $3." They're thinking "I can sell this for $450 right now, so I'm effectively spending $1350." An Investment isn't worth the initial investment, it is worth its current market value.

If we subtract the cost of the components and the divide the remainder by the 8 hours of work you put in then you are getting 162.5 dollars an hour. Nice! And here I am enjoying my formidable 11 bucks an hour :p

Since BTC seems to be of controversy here, how much would you charge in USD?
