I received mine too. Everything was packaged nicely bubble wrap everywhere. I didn't expect these things to be so heavy. Thanks again COCONUTS.

I bought some of those off of ebay about a year ago, have already PM'd a couple of the buyers asking if they want to sell but from their responses not sure they will.

"What we call physical things and events do not exist independently of subjective experience..." - Deepak Chopra.

Default Re: COCONUTS Uranium Marble Bulk Going out of Business Opportunity SOLD OUT!

I was wondering if I had lost my marblesbut I finally found them today. Thanks COCONUTS. Exactly what I was expecting and well packaged.

Please don't anyone else PM me asking me to sell, if I were to sell any it would only be to the first person that PM'd me, and I am not enthusiastic about selling any just now. I also don't build and sell lasers either so please don't PM me about that either, have had a couple of those.

If no one who bought these is selling them in small amounts, if anyone wants I can post a couple of links where you can buy uranium marbles. The thing is it looks like the only ones available are the yellow custard/Vaseline glass type, these green ones aren't made anymore and I read that the yellow ones aren't either so they will eventually be unavailable in the near future.

You're right Alan. I got the same requests. Just be careful if the link you paste is the marbles that are a yellowish/whitish color. I was reading about it last night that they have a tendency to reflect lasers back toward the person eyes. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION! It only takes a split second.

Glad everyone is happy with their purchases. My marbles DON'T reflect at all. They completely absorb the beam.

Here's an idea for those who got 1/6 lots.

And this WASN'T my idea, but I thought it was very cool! I'm NOT taking credit for the idea...only sharing what I think is a pretty neat project.

I can't remember which member made it and I can't find any posts for it now.

Make some sort of base with a lip to hold the marbles. Use either a UV light or 405 modules mounted in the base facing up. Stack the small marbles in a pyramid and you'll have a VERY COOL night light. If you start with 6 at the base and my math is correct , you would need 91 marbles.

I never got around to making one but thought it was a neat idea.

I can't recommend anyone better than Flaminpyro for all your laser build needs. There are plenty of GREAT builders here on the forum and I'm mentioning one that I've known and dealt with for years. You won't be sorry dealing with Jeff!

I was speaking of the link Pi R Squared might be referring to. Some of the ones on eBay are garbage and are a milky color that reflects the beam. COCONUTS are of the best quality. Im sorry for the misunderstanding.

I think those are the only kind you can get now, and even those apparently aren't being made anymore. Here are two links for those who want to buy some, these ones from United Nuclear claim to be 3% uranium and come with a certificate of measured radiation, the 5/8" are 3 for $10: Radioactive Uranium Doped Marbles, Small : United Nuclear , Scientific Equipment & Supplies
And the 1" are 2 for $12: Radioactive Uranium Doped Marbles, Large : United Nuclear , Scientific Equipment & Supplies

Another place many of us here buy stuff from has some 1" marbles for only $1.25 each! It says nothing about the quality and with the price being so low I suspect they are not from the same source: 1" Uranium "Custard" Vaseline Glass Marble - Laser Components - Laser Components & Tools
It doesn't say how many of them they have in stock, if you want to buy very many I would ask them first.

If there are any of the clear green glass type out there you will have to find it on your own, buy them while you can, supposedly no glass makers are making uranium glass anymore.

I also saw some artists making some cool things out of the uranium glass. Looks like they're melting it down and making new stuff. Very Cool! Gave me some good ideas. Like Pi R Squared said get them while you can. The good quality stuff is hard to find and is expensive also. COCONUTS gave us a great deal.

I purchased some of those milky ones before I found these and they don't even come close to the clear green ones I sold everyone here last week. They were crap. I purchased from about 10 ebay sellers in small quantities and sizes and never got any like I just sold here.

When I was selling these years ago here I was charging $1 for small and $5 each for the 1". I also packaged 5 of the small marbles along with one of those AAA over speck 405 pens for $17-$23 + $3 for PP fee's and first class shipping. I sold about 75 of those package deals here and on e-bay in about 6 months. They were real popular with no disappointments from anyone.

I had about 100 or so decorative uranium pieces like bowls, candlestick holders, plates and other artsy pieces at one time. I'm sorry I sold all those

I have a ball jar with what I kept up on my kitchen cabinet shelf with my antique bottle collection and one cheap 405 pen that I let my grandson light them up when he comes. I still love the glow especially in the dark. He thinks lasers are cool at 8 years old!

I also built my grandson a 4 motor 532nm 50mw Green Spiro graph with each motor having its own potentiometer for his bedroom. It has 4 motor mirror controls, runs on a 5 volt AC wart and gives of millions of unbelievable patterns. It has a on/off switch with the cover like in a fighter plane and is Very Cool! I got the inspiration for it from Flaminpyros cool builds. He helped me source the parts I needed. I used epoxy to mount all the components in a clear 4x5x8 project box and a high end glass clear round window for the beam to go through. My grandson still loves it 3 years later and runs it on his white bedroom wall before bedtime with my son.

I posted this spirograph info in the wrong place...sorry. I sold a bunch of parts for these awhile ago and meant it for the member who purchased them.

They are pretty easy to make. Just trial and error placing the motors with mirrors glued on them. I used a 2" clear piece of precision glass for the aperture. I cut small pieces of aluminum to mount the motors on as heat sinks, added a fan, potentiometer, on/off switch for each motor that also reverse the motor direction, a master power switch and powered it with a AC/5VDC wall wart. I used a 532nm 50mw module in a heat sink and put it all together using 2 part epoxy. The mirrors don't have to be glued on the motor gears perfectly. If they are a little crooked, it produces better designs. The hard part is getting the beam to hit each mirror in order and come out of the center of the glass lens. I used welders goggle glass lens.

Total cost was under $50

I was tired when I posted this here. I thought I was PMing the member.

Talking Re: COCONUTS Uranium Marble Bulk Going out of Business Opportunity SOLD OUT!

I used to do scientific glass blowing, to make apparatus, etc, and, now that you mention the melting down to make new items concept, my wheels are spinning.

I wonder if the heating/melting process would drive off harmful emissions?

I wonder what a prism set made of this would do?

I wonder if setting internal mirrors at key locations would be a cool effect?

I wonder if adding glow powder would add cool effects like afterglow, etc.

I wonder if incorporating some filaments could add a fiber optic effect?

Teej I was wondering the same thing. If it's melted if there is any toxins. I did see a few artists that are doing it. I have seen shards, chips, etc. being sold on eBay but I know nothing about the process.

I think maybe we should stop posting here and start a new thread in the appropriate forum section.

I didn't mean to start this all here.
