So that heatsink has a 12,0mm(?) hole made to fit an aixiz module, right?
Also, here one would need a proper boosting driver, right? 1x Li-Ion + lm317 = no joy.
Sorry to be such a PITA, but I'm almost sold.

well with a attitude like this "while i'm down in the basement i'm going to see if i can fit a small sink inside the pill for the driver to be mounted on. I've got some pretty small aluminum stock so if i can get it cut into a half circle i may be able to work something out to get the driver heat sinked."

These are really nice hosts. The cheapest i can find them other than price angels is around $16-18ea for just the host. PA has them listed for $12 so i wanna jump on them while thjey are that low.

even the reflector in the host is metalic.....so there is nothing cheap about the host itself. I'm not sure if PA is going to keep this price or not, so i want to get a batch of them ASAP just in case lol

Yes it has a hole drilled for an aixiz module.
You'll need either a microboost or a flex v5 driver for your laser as it's powered by 1x li-ion


my ventures in the basement were a no go. I don't have the right size aluminum, and i'm not sure how people sink them anyway with every component on the driver being a different height, unless they goop it with thermal adhesive.

however it can be put on it's side and lay straight up and down with just enough room for the blank pcb to still be pressed in. So with the right sized aluminum and some thermal adhesive, the drivers could be sinked.

I'll probably just turn down some 7/8" aluminum to fit inside the pill, then chop it up into wedges. It will take up close to half of one side of that pill compartment but would give the flat edge for sinking the driver.

Come to think of it, the pill itself is pretty big, if i don't drill the hole in the center and just have people thread the wiring through the two already existing holes, the could just blue the driver directly to the pill with thermal adhesive and get good results.
The pill seems to be some kind of zinc plated metal, like aixiz modules. I don't know if it's brass or not, but it's got the silver shine and scrapes into a yellowish metal like the aixiz modules.

Mine begins to get warm around 1 minute 45 seconds. That is from a cold start though, as in the flashlight hasn't been touched and feel cool when you pick it up.

I've been playing around with the one i've got a bit for possible improvements.
I originally drill a hole through the center of the pill to feed the diode wire through, but now i'm going to leave the pill intact, and the wires will be fed through the orignal holes on each side.
This will require me to leave the heatsink a couple of mm shorter, to allow the wires to feed through those hole. However, this will allow the person to heatsink to driver onto the pill itself, keeping it from over heating.

I've also got some thermal pads on the way that i plan on placing on this spot for people to stick their driver.

I'm doing away with the GITD o-ring inside the head of the host. It's just a rubber insulator that serves no purpose. Heat transfer will be much better if the heat sink is tight against the metal head instead of a rubber o-ring.

Also, This one i'm messing with i drill a hole through the threads on the heatsink's side of the pill and threaded it for a set screw. This would allow people to lock down the heat sink and keep it from spinning. However it's not that hard to screw the head on without the heatsink spinning so i'm contemplating this idea.....

I'm trying to focus more on quality than price with these kits. I'll literally not have any days off soon, so my free time is going to be almost non existent, so these kits are going to be a LOT more expensive compared to what i've sold in the past.

I'm also trying to think of a way to package up small amount of thermal epoxy to include with my kits. I may just take tiny pieces of aluminum, hollow them out, pour some epoxy in it and tape over it.....to include just enough for the buyer to glue their driver.

This way people would get the host, heatsink, FP silicone leads, thermal epoxy,and everything modded and ready.
That way with their driver/diode/module they can build a very high quality laser.

these definitely won't be the cheap route to building a laser, but i think it'll still be decent priced for what you get. I'll be building these thing one at a time as well, instead of building 20 at a time. This will allow me to give my full attention to each and every kit.

as it is now, i think those that bought ahead of time are ending up with a 50% discount...
