Looking for any HANDheld laser capable of melting!

Preferably +2 watts with focusing lense!

Please post asking price!

Thanks!

Re: Need to burn white!

a 1.3 watt 445 should be able to do what you seek. Please keep in mind these lasers are NOT ever toys and safety googles are a MUST OR YOU WILL GO BLIND IN 1/10000 of a second.

Re: Need to burn white!

@joescj - What are you trying to do with the laser?

@joeyss - Good advice on safety, but 445nm really wouldn't work as well as other options - specifically IR.

Re: Need to burn white!

IIRC rayfoss sells a 3w IR laser.
EDIT: or lazerer sells 2w ir lasers, guaranteed output.

Re: Need to burn white!

Actually Ir in the 800-1000nms range is worse for white unless you get over 2 or 3 watts. I think 1.8 watts of 445 would be the best since you could focus it smaller too.

Re: Need to burn white!

^^^IR is available in much higher powers so IMHO for any kind of serious application that would the the way to go.

Re: Need to burn white!

I actually have a 1W 445nm that is completely ineffective on anything white, as well as a 400mW 808nm that cant do anything to white either.
I just purchased a 2.5W 980nm with focusing lens, but from what I've been reading, it seems that higher wave lengths are much harder to absorb. So I'm thinking this will not work either?? Ill test it as soon as I get it though.

I'm a growing hobbyist, and it just really bothers me that I cant burn it!! haha.

Any advice anyone??
Thanks!

Re: Need to burn white!

808nm is not nearly as energetic, so you would need significantly more power.

445nm properly focused will burn/melt some materials, but generally the power that's available to us is not sufficient.

I'll stand by what I said before... IR, only you need a lot more power.

Still didn't answer what this is for btw:whistle:

Lol, now you did:D

Btw, don't double post, many people here have a bug up their behinds about that (personally I don't care:shrug:). Use the Edit button to add to an existing post.

For burning white, melting, etc, I highly recommend one of these:http://www.amazon.com/Blazer-GB2001-Self-Igniting-Butane-Micro-Torch/dp/B000VML7KO

Haha, yes a torch would do this very well. :yh:
Thanks for the advice!

Re: Need to burn white!

For burning white, go for a >700mW 405nm

Yea, I've read a lot about blu-ray 405nm being much more effective at burning. I've also read a lot the says otherwise.
I see that you actually have one!
Thanks! :yh:

Re: Need to burn white!

And I'll concur on the 405nm too. I've got a 750mW bluray that will ignite white flash paper and burn through business cards.

I see that you actually have one, is it capable of melting stuff like white plastic close range?
Thanks! :yh:

Please give me a link to such a statement.

I´m going to look for some white plastic

Re: Need to burn white!

Before you have to answer me my red question above.
Haha, I literally just closed 7 tabs talking about wavelengths and absorption rates. Give me a few minutes.

So it seems I can't find any of the stuff i read on posts, but I have a few email responses from laser pen manufacturers. These are some of the responses I received.

It will not make much difference between 445nm or 405nm or 532nm. (in context of burning white)

I think laser with power higher than 1W can narrowly burn a white paper with right focus. Thanks for your question.

Apart from the beam expander, the only other alternative I can think of is a high power lab laser.

These are excerpts from three different laser pen manufacturers that I contacted asking about this topic. All 3 of them sell also 405nm lasers pens as well.

I'll edit this again when i come across some posts! Sorry I missed your question the first time.
