Ever think of using a stick lighter...

Lasers are not instant burn like it is on some videos. You have to focus the beam to a very small point, and have an extremely steady hand to hold it still on one spot. If you move to far left, or right, front or back, its not going to work. Also its a huge eye danger, so you need goggles too. Not only for eye protection, but to reduce the glare so you can get the bean to a pin point. In this case, fantasy is different than reality.

Exactly what I meant in my earlier post. Lighting things with a laser takes some practice. Excellent suggestion about the bbq/stick lighter.

If your only reason to use a laser is "cause your fingers get burned" and "cool effect" then you might want to rethink your plan. As Tech said fantasy is different than reality.

3zuli -> Do you think the o-like one is able to light a match?
Also I've thought about this one: 200mW Green Single Beam Laser Pointer Pen - $69.99 : Laserlands
But it hasn't got adjustable focus, so would that be a problem?
if you want laser for burning, IT MUST BE FOCUSABLE. that laserland's one isn't focusable.
200mW Transformable focusable green laser£*>5~200mw green laser pointer£*>Laser&lighting products£*>www.0-like.com green
New Style focusable blu-ray pen 150mW£*>405nm blue-violet laser£*>Laser&lighting products£*>www.0-like.com violet

btw, o-like isn't in EU but they shipp fast, so if you order sth. now, it should arrive before December 31. but remember, during holidays also post officers have holiday ;)

Its a blueray mate :) and yes it will be powerful enough to light them. It easily burns any type of match, so a dark fuse should be no problem.

Is your 125mW green laser powerfull enough to ignite a fuse on some fireworks?

I recommend a blu ray laser instead of a green laser. Blu ray violet light is absorbed by materials better than green light is. Since it is absorbed better the blu ray winds up burning things easier. Go with a blu ray. :D Dont bother with a green laser. They are more visible but dont burn as well as blu ray.

In my opinion it isnt too hard to focus and burn things with a laser as long as you have laser safety goggles. Without goggles it is pretty much impossible to focus it to a small enough point for burning.

Plus you really really REALLY need eye protection, these are powerful lasers. There are some cheap $10 goggles in the stickied thread. They arent approved for laser protection but happen to work really well.

I know it would be more practical, but I allways burn my fingers on the fuse :banghead: But it would also be a nice effect if I lit the fuses using a laser

Why are you holding the fuse with your fingers? Is the lighter too close to your hand? Use one of these. You can get hundreds for the price of a bluray. The spatter from the fuse is likely to damage the bluray optic anyway.

Use a punk. It won't blow out, burns for up to an hour and can light many types of fuses instantly. It's great for non smokers. :)

I tried using a laser to light fuses and it's great to light as a novelty but fuses shoot slag, sparks, smoke, etc. which will wreck your lens and casing over time.

A decent green converted to 808 (1W+ pump) will light anything including sparklers but is outrageously dangerous too!
