Hi all,

I want a high-powered (150mW to 200mW) green pen style laser but I live in Australia. I don't want to build my own because I have shaky hands and poor soldering skills. Is anyone able to get them into the country? I guess if it's absolutely necessary in order to get it through customs, I could do some construction myself... PM me :)

Talk to Sawt al Hurriyah perhaps? (or is he US only?)

He has a laser shipment forwarding service thread in the Group Buys forum.

I live in the US. I would give up lasers for life for the ability to see the bright beautiful center of the Milky Way like you can in Australia. I understand on a dark night the Milky Way will cast a shadow its so bright down under. ;)

I always wondered this. When we refer to you as "down under," do you refer to us as "up over?"

Not really. Only when taking the piss. Actually, even then we normally don't.

Taking the piss means "stirring you up", which means to poke fun at. For example, if you're a 70 year old woman and I start talking to you in a typical exaggerated crazy old grandma voice about the war and the price of tea, then I would be "taking the piss".

Also, the word "Aussie" is pronounced "ozzy", not "ossy".

I ship to a guy who has a hell of a time with customs. When shipping a modular laser I ship the head and base separately. On the customs declaration I put "broken inspection light". What do you think? Maybe the "ozzy" customs have an electronics/laser expert with nothing to do buy figure out how to power up the head of a "broken inspection light". I respect the law but that law SUCKS!

I know. Typical government answer to a problem. Just ban them. Wankers.

It's the losers who point them at aircraft who should be punished. FFS! F*cking government!

Maybe I could apply for a permit. There are legitimate reasons for having these things and some of them are the exact reason I want a high-powered laser pointer.

Actually, I just had a thought: this place just down the road from me might be able to import them. They would be able to justify it, if it's part of their business.

I heard that the fine for importing illegal lasers was ~$400,000 + 10 years in prison. That's probably a worse case scenario, but is it worth the risk?

Inmate: I killed a family of 4, what are you in for?
You: I imported some lasers.
Inmate: You my bitch now.

Hi all, I am in Australia also (bundaberg queensland). I recently emailed the local cop shop regarding the laws with laser pointers and they told me it is not illegal for me to have posession of a laser pointer. Its just what I do with it that could get me into trouble for assault etc.

This is relatively good news, at least we wont get charged for having them.

I have two green modules in their way from 0-like. They should get through.

The problem, greenzx9r, is that you cannot import them. Modules are okay. Complete pointers aren't.

PayPal have totally fagged me, so I cant even buy stuff from jay or anyone else any more . PAYPAL = stupid^2
