Yup... Seems almost impossible to out-post rhd, lol

Edit:
You need to read above... Its already sold and it was sold for higher the you were offering. But I have an auction going on here the bid is currently $110.

Edit... And again rhd beats me to the post. :(

During the day, if I'm rapid firing responses to threads - there's a really good chance I'm just antsy in a boring class.

Or procrastinating a 25 page paper ;)

Its ok I think we will both be beat out near the end. I have a few soldering irons just dreading my first diode attempt or I would have just ordered his kit.

I would rather get a known working unit for my first 445 as the diodes are a bit expensive to practice on.

So I built one of these myself (1.25A, still need to determine the wattage...) so I don't need this anymore! But good luck, all.

Oh look... another Hoo-Ahh lol... its cool, i can take the abuse :eg:

I thought you had a good point earlier, about buying a working model before letting your iron feed on sensitive lil diodes... that's my thought exactly

Besides, as I've proven in the last auction i participated in, i have a pretty low bid cap lol.

You might have missed my first post bhwollen

bhwollen, do you REALLY want to know why JakeGT's went through the roof in such a small amount of time?

It's because i was trying to get that laser.... :D

Quick Q: is this the same laser you've sent me pics of?

A little, I'm super stressed though because I have missed 3 days of school straight and I have hockey playoffs this weekend. I really don't want to be sick for that.

arrrrrgh I still dont know ok last bid 135

You experts out there, I have a used radio shack digital iron with a nice clean tip 80W max but not near as hot as my cheapy 80w iron i got from amazon for 10$.

the radio shack iron has a temp readout on the station, I dont trust it but if anything its reading higher, I can set the temp as low as 200c my cheapy iron is 850c.

im pretty good at soldering but alas never a laser diode crossed my irons.

im thinking if i just get a kit from him, err 400c iron and 300c ish solder?
sorry if my post is odd, my brain has issues after i give plasma lol

I think you're over-thinking.

The cooler your iron can be and still melt the solder decently, the better (in my mind).

Short, fast fast solders. After you solder one lead, I'd probably let it cool before the other, so that the heat doesn't compound itself. I also generally unplug my soldering iron right before soldering the diode itself.
