Re: 6 Steps To Prevent You From Getting Scammed

Hey guys,

I currently have a bridge for sale over here in NYC. I figure I could let it go for $20, price negotiable. Please send me cash via USPS (and please, no tracking). Whoever gets their envelope to me first will be the lucky owner of a new bridge.

You might wanna add this too:

Never let a seller talk you into paying via Western Union.
That service is meant to send cash quickly to family members.
There's no way to dispute the money like you can with PayPal or a credit card,
in case the deal turns sour.

boxes costs much more), called "posta prioritaria",

Sounds like a pasta dish. Mmmmm. :p

You may want to add a line about simply asking about a seller in the forum

Peace,
dave

I thought about that, but then we all remember DJNYs recommendation. (love you to Phi :tinfoil:)

I'll trade you my Lamborghini. Just send me 2K transit charge to get it delivered to you. Its only $1,500 if you send cash because I wont have to waste time with the banks, and it will get it to you even faster. I'll throw in key chain too.

Updated rule 5. Anymore ideas?

Keep it simple please. I tried real hard to keep it as short as possible so people would read the whole thing.

I think it is a good op right now, all the basics have Bren covered, and if they still have questions they can ask a vet, which they should do anyways if they have any doubt.

In my experience..... Most Noobs feel that they know it all
ans only ask for help AFTER they are burned....

Re: 6 Steps To Prevent You From Getting Scammed

2. When using Paypal never send as "Gift" or "Money Owed". If you send money this way you cannot file a dispute through Paypal if you get scammed. If someone asks you to send money this way its a sure bet its a scam. Always send money as "Payment For Goods", and write a description of the item in the message field. If something goes wrong you have 45 days to file a dispute in Paypal. If you have not received your item by the 40th day, open a dispute. If the seller tries to stall, and/or says they will not refund your money unless you close the dispute, then escalate the dispute to a claim and let Paypal handle it. But do not file a dispute until it reaches at least 35 days. Delayed deliveries are not uncommon.

Interesting - I didn't completely understand the implications of sending PP as a gift. I often do that with people on LPF to save them the PP fees. Conversely, I've asked people to send payments as gifts - or rather at least offered them the option of taking the fee value off their purchase price if they send as a gift. This is good to know - and kind of makes me feel like a schmuck for suggesting payments as a gift in the first place.

Question though - is it actually ok for us to be writing descriptions of items like 1W 445s, that wouldn't be allowed on sites like eBay? I thought paypal was iffy about that too?

No. Your not supposed to write anything about lasers In paypal notes or sales, or purchases

They can freeze your paypal
If they think your selling lasers
