I have 2 of these diffraction grating laser pens. They are fixed focus. Take the tip off and you have a regular laser. One has a tiny bit of side splash (like a 405-G-1 lens) the other has some cloudiness around the spot. I am selling these for $125 each shipped. Thanks for looking. Oh yeah, they run on GROOVE drives, 2 10440 unprotected rechargeables (included), and have an aixiz glass 445nm lens.

What kind of duty cycle do these have? Cause I have a ~300mA pen that is at 65mW and it warms up quite quick in a pen host.

There is likely something wrong with your laser. Not necessarily defective....It's probably turning the energy into heat rather than light output. This could be due to the fact that you are teetering on the lasing threshold. Not sure though. Are you using a flex? Try using a linear driver for your next pen build. The GRV2 is the way to go for a pen IMHO

These diodes are horribly inefficient at lower powers. Which is why it takes about 300mA to get 65mW.

Jay and Dave have driven the diodes at 275mA and have gotten powers between 50-75mW depending on their setup (lenses and whatnot).

Bottom line is, these diodes were not made for lower mW outputs, they were deigned for much higher currents. So the efficiency is pretty bad for lower outputs. My diode is no different than any other XJ-A140 diode from the information provided by other members here.

And I am using a rkcstr driver.
