That's pretty good. Shipping is expensive, but $10 would barely buy you the diode and the host, so that's a good outcome.

Although why you'd want a 5mW blu-ray I have no idea :/

Maby so you can pot mod it to 95mW

Actually a 5mW blu-ray is fun to play around with if you already have some high-powered violets. I didn't think so until I got a 5mW blu-ray from DX, with a low powered violet you can see fluorescence on some objects that you can't see with like a PHR or stronger laser. It's also nice having a somewhat eye-safe laser so you know you won't put an eye out very easily.

I ALWAYS keep a couple of low powered violets around just for just this purpose. I show someone what glows on one of my mineral shelves and then hand them a laser to play with.

You're the reason why I got a violet pointer after "upgrading" to high powered violets after I read your posts about the low powered fluorescence trick. With the price of violet pointers these days I'd recommend one to any laser enthusiast, especially if you can get them for $10 like in this auction.

In my experience most of those 5mW ebay lasers are much more than 5mW. Also they are all Pot modable up to much higher poweres. the particular model you purchased is a real pain to get inside though. You pretty much have to destroy the entire thing to get to the insides.

Wouldn't it have to be a modded down diode to be only 5mWs.? One of you rich guys should get some and review just for the fun of it. As is -these would be great for writing on GITD wallpaper or painted wall-gitd frisbees-toys etc. Not sure if a cat can see one tho? I had a lizard (Anole)chasing a spot on my screendoor with a 5mW greenie- very funny -should have tried to video it. next time.

It's only a pain if you don't know how to do it, the wood blocks/vise trick works perfect on these NewWish pens, I rarely even scratch these hosts anymore because I've ripped apart so many of them... :D

styropyro-I was not in that ebay auction ---BUT If I did get two and mailed them to you, would you open-mod and meter one to send back to me? You keep the other one. That BTW would make another great review/tut from you. PM to let me know. hak
