~10mW 445nm pen?

I really like the new wish style host  but any pen host is good. I just want a pen under 20mW's to point around with, at 445nm. How much would this cost or can it even done?

Thanks

I cannot see any reason why it would not work. The lowest output one I have built is 170mW, but the threshold should allow for 20mW

$160 shipped in the US

Peace,
dave

the 1watt diode lase at about 25mw

With an Aixiz acrylic, the output power could be lower.
Also, at low powers, the "back" could be left on the lens, which would clean up the dot a bit.
Also, the Aixiz acrylic is does give a pretty decent beam compared to other lenses with the added benefit of being very cheap. Glass is not needed if the goal is to get low output.
An aixiz glass lens coated for red would even work to lower the output. And it would probably give a better beam, too.

190-200mA will get you as low as 5mW, but as the temp of the LD rises, so does the threshold current.

10-20mW should be no problem.

the diode doesnt lase till 25mw on mine

With which lens? Is there any other attenuation in place. Getting a 20mW pointer wouldn't seem to be much of a problem with a 25mW lth.

Peace,
dave

edit, misread.

The 3 diodes I bought all begin to lase between 190 and say 210mA depending on temp. You guys getting a big difference with yours? I wonder if these are similar to the 405nm diodes have some gaps in the properties.

Ive had 3 down to 5mW usually around 190-200mA. How are you driving them in tests?

I haven't graphed one of these yet. The 25mW threshold info is from Andy_Con. At only 3mW is it very possible that the diode is not lasing yet. I would have to see the light from the diode, but it could be just spurious emission before the diode begins to lase

Peace,
dave

Such a thing is typical of multi-mode diodes. To make one lase at a stable output, one may need something more like ~25mw.

Bluemeanie is right, the diodes become very sensitive to temperature at such low currents.

I seem to remember a mention either here or on another forum that these are single-mode up to around 50mw?

Yeah new wish hosts are awesome I would love to see a 5mW 445nm for about $2 - $20 or so on dealextreme in a New wish host that would be the best, because 1 watt is too much for me. I'm thinking of selling my spyder with shades to someone in school.

There are those 50mW diodes Kingstonmeo is selling on eBay, they're $179.99 opening bid and $199.99 buy it now. Kinda pricey compared to the ones we're using now, but they're not as incredibly dangerous as the Arctics.

Make sure you trust the person they can handle that much power safely...
1W would be much for me too, it would be skill to wake up to dx selling it at $2 xD

Those are actually thought to be the same diodes though :p
