quality comes at a premium -

these lasers are worth twice the price. I own 2 for now (one red and one blue), and will be getting more!

Thanks Wolfwood, glad you're enjoying them!

Would it be worth the money to put some arctic alumina between the sink and host for better thermal conductivity? Just wondering about putting the heat sink in by hand and all. Ideally, you'd press it in to ensure contact, with just a small amount of interference, right?

I used arctic silver 5 paste between the heat sink and host and should help with heat transfer.

hey anytime Garoq -

when i find a man, or company that does great work, or has great products for a fair price won't hesitate to recommend them.

And the lasers are great! Funny thing about the blue laser - i actually had a pm conversation with you via this thread and had a deal worked out - Then i plum forgot about it and ended up buying on the website anyway!

Paid a bit more - but again, i ain't complaining one bit! still worth it.

@Garoq - I had posted just before server problems. I talked to you about this a month or so ago. I lost the extended length focusing ring and spring in tall weeds. I live in CA but wondered if just being hardware, if I could get those pieces? I'll be getting the next laser a bit later. Thanks a lot!

Kathy, not a problem, just order from our new U.S. store survivallaserusa.com.

Thanks!

And let me just say, we're working on some innovative solutions to the current regulatory situation, and hope to have something to announce soon. :D

Garoq - is it possible to get the 2W diode/driver and drop it in my housing? If so, I'll probably go and order it and whatever I need if you let me know what I should get :) btw LOVE the new focus ring!!! I didn't realize it was different from the original. I'm not burning (and breaking DNA) my fingers!

Unfortunately i cannot sell complete diode and driver modules in the US at this time. You would need to purchase one of our 1.8A driver and pill modules and solder it to one of DTR's M140 diodes in a copper module (the one for $54). However, those diodes are not binned so there is no guarantee of power output...it could vary from 1.6W to 2.4W with a G-1 or G-2 lens depending on diode efficiency.

If you can let me know exactly what to order, I'll do it! You can either post here or send me email which I think you have. If not, I'll send a message to you. I would love to try it.

btw - I have gotten a lot of fun and experimenting with your old laser (my background is physics/chem the physics with an emphasis on nuclear and E&M and worked at Hughes laser/thermal imaging lab when I got out of school) :)

Hey pinktalon,

Gary embedded hyperlinks in the following phrases "1.8A driver and pill modules", "solder it", and "DTR's M140 diodes in a copper module" in his response above.

If you click on these, they will list the parts you need as well as the instructions for soldering the driver and pill module to the diode module.

Good Luck!

Hi Gary and Kathy,

You are both welcome! Those embedded hyperlinks are tricky to spot especially when you are reading for contents. :)

Gary, I also want to thank you for the + REP, that is very kind of you.

I want to say that I’m upset about the FDA restriction that limits you from selling completed diode and driver components to US residents.

This past summer, I’m very pleased that I had the opportunity to build my first laser because I purchased one of Gary’s bundled packages (the Obsidian bundle) with easy to follow instructions; granted it was just assembling all the components but it was a thrill when I turned on (wearing my goggles that I also purchased from Gary of course) my laser for the first time.

I know some people may critique about the price but to reiterate what other customers have said numerous times, you get great quality products with even greater customer support before and after purchase. I had numerous communications with Gary via PMs and emails and he always manages to reply timely with details, courtesy, and patience to address all my questions. I was impressed by Gary’s knowledge and excellent customer service that purchased my second laser from him in less than one month after my first laser purchased from him. I highly recommend Gary!

Gary, I wish you the best and I hope that the FDA will lift the restriction in the near future so others can also enjoy the experience of building their first laser.

Thank you.

Larry
