@Garoq

How durable are these lasers? I mean I've had some cheapies stand up to an incredible amount of abuse. My other hobby, flashlight and knives, a few I've actually torture tested on purpose. My basic concern is if will survive pocket carry, with keys/flashlight/pocket knife and how it stand up to short drops... Such as from a clumsy user dropping it on the pavement:eek:

I just got an o-like 1.2W and while I'm sure the host will last for a very very long time, I'm not overly confident about the internal components. Really really wish I had known about your lasers before getting that one. Live and learn I guess.

Also how much is the G1 lens upgrade?

"I just dropped, wait more like threw by accident this host on some tile floor. I was holding the wrist strap and spun around and lost it. Still works, so I know this is a good quality host and can take a bit a damage, good thing because I'm a klutz. I recommend this host to any newbie looking for a first build, great price, great reliability!"

I don't recommend pocket carry with keys & etc., that's what the holster is for. :)

Our LPF price for the G-1 lens is $89.55. They're less through Jayrob but I can ship immediately, Jay may have a lead time.

Between you, bhwollen and Jerry, I'm gonna need some extra creative accounting next week:eek:

From my experience with flashlights, hosts are rarely an issue, it's always the internal components not handling the shock that's killed my lights :/

I just wanted to chime in here and say I ordered one of these a couple of weeks ago. Very smooth transaction, Gary and I exchanged a few PMs before I ordered and he was very helpful at answering all my questions. I think I ordered on a Sunday and had the kit in hand by Wednesday.

It literally took less then 10 mins to put together and I'm extremely happy with it! I added the copper heatsink option and even though I still keep the duty cycle under 60 seconds, it never really gets warm at all. I'm sure I could go longer, but I choose to play it safe.

This was money well spent and if he offered these same kits in other wavelengths, he would definitely have some repeat business from me. (Yes that was a hint! :D)

I will stress that this isn't something to be used like a "pointer" or a toy. If you do not already have appropriate safety goggles for this wavelength, be SURE to order them with this. I ordered the Eagle Pair glasses and love them. They block everything except a tiny tiny dim light at the dot, but still allow plenty of normal visible light.

I am a new member and recenetly I purchased this build. after a few PMs and a paying for it through paypal. It was on it's way. When I received it I had some questions about the build. Gary really went out of his way to help me. I'm not going to get into specifics, but I noticed someone else just posted that that he noticed there isn't a single bad message in this forum. I say, there is a reason for that: Gary is an outstanding person and his merchandise is legit! I'm very happy with my survival laser!

Well, I messaged Gary yesterday because I was looking for a good 445nm laser for a really long time, I previously tried buying a Survival Laser of a member of this forum, but that was a scam. :(
So anyway, he helped me great and I will be ordering one as soon as I collect the money.
But one question I wanted to ask publicly, to help other UK buyers is:
How long will it take to ship to the UK?
And I second jcranmer, I would definitely be interested if you made kits like this one for other wavelengths.
Thanks a lot. Looking forward to ordering and receiving a Survival Laser!

It's posted somewhere in this thread, but he does/is offering this kit in other wavelength forms, the only difference is driver set to a different current, and you use a different diode

The Post Office estimates 6-10 business days for Priority Mail. If you're interested in Express Mail, that is supposed to take 3-5 business days and I would have to quote that separately.

The other wavelength SL laser host assemblies that jakeGT mentioned are currently of the "DIY" variety, in that you provide your own diode, module and lens.

Mine is shipping today! :D

Hmm .. I'm not too confident with DIYs, I'm pretty sure a lot of people are buying this kit because it's so simple and doesn't require soldering.
I think if you make kits like this one for other wavelengths they will be as successful as this one, if not more successful.
I would be really happy to see a kit like this from you in another wavelength.
Thanks a lot anyway. :D

Got my laser today :D played with it for a bit and LOVE IT very simple to assemble very professionally packaged decided that I am going to grab a copper heat sink, extra pairs of goggles and possibly a G1 lens :D thanks for this amazing laser Gary. 110% to buy from him again, and on a sidenote lol a friend of mine may be interested in buying one soon just so you know.

Count me in for a major interest in this idea as well. I'm OK with a soldering iron, but I just don't have enough confidence to tackle a laser diode yet. I'd be interested in something in a 650 and a 405 in this same host. Of course I most likely couldn't afford to do both in one month. (My wife has me on a very strict laser budget! :D)

I wouldn't mind having a nice green in this style host as well, but I'm assuming that would require a change to the heat sink to fit the green module in there.

While you are at it, there is also 808, :D We aren't asking for much are we! Seriously though, I don't have a lot of interest in NIR / IR yet, I find the thought of a nearly invisible laser beam something that just doesn't seem like a good idea.
