Garoq, what do you think about the diode life of this SL II?

In a different build, I've been advised, and have accepted the advice, to keep the current out of the driver to a A140 diode no higher than 1.6W, for diode life. This is with an excessively huge heat-sink.

Is there any worry that driving the diode to 2W will have any issues with diode life?

My understanding is that 1.8A is generally considered the maximum "safe" current that these diodes can be operated at and is where our beta test units have been running with no issues so far. That said, I would hope for a diode life of 2000-5000 hours at this current setting. I would be interested in hearing others experiences with their diodes set at 1.8A.

Actually you ordered the Survival Laser host assembly only without the diode module, batteries and charger. You also ordered a battery tube extension.

Gary, if you remember, I bought one of the initial kits when you had the introductory price of $200. I was interested in upgrading the aluminum heatsink to copper, but I see on your site that you only offer the $11.50 discounted price if it accompanies a laser parts bundle. Seeing as I already have the laser, could I buy the copper heatsink for this price?

Just ordered this laser bundle with copper heat sink upgrade and
the battery extension tube.

Will be heading my way later today!

Can not wait to get the mail these next couple of days!

Hi, yes I remember and I think you posted a nice review on the SL Facebook page, thanks.

The idea of the copper heat sink "upgrade" was that we would swap out the copper for the aluminum one before shipment of the bundle and that the upgrade price was the difference in cost between the two parts. Your question has come up before, and I have asked customers to mail back their undamaged blue aluminum heat sink and I will sell the copper one for the upgrade price.

What's gonna be your secret for the 2W SL? Or are you going to have to cherrypick each individual diode, because in my experience, which hasn't even been a whole projectors worth of diodes yet, that not many at 1.8A give out 2W, even with a 405-g-1 lens. So are you going to be pushing them further than that?

And surely not in the Cree C6 host right? I am just very curious as to your plans, and if it's secret, I'll understand :(
