Re: 1-1.3 watt 445nm Laser Package **ONLY $190 SHIPPED IN THE US**

I just read the safety stuff. Wow, I had no idea you can face imprisonment if you shine it at moving vehicles. My idea was to only point it at the ground or over the horizon. I also just read about how blue seems to be the most dangerous color in reference to eye damage. I will definitely keep this in mind when operating any blue laser.

Aside from safety, will this laser overheat if turned on for long periods of time? What's the longest amount of time you would recommend keeping the high powered blue laser on for? I have read elsewhere that other lasers even with heatsinks shouldn't be on for more than 30 seconds at a time.

We recommend a 1 minute duty cycle with the aluminum heat sink, 2-3 minutes with the optional copper version.

(SOLD OUT) FYI I have a small number of 1.4-1.5W "Special Edition" versions of the Survival Laser part bundles with accessories available. These use extremely efficient diodes that were set aside from normal production during testing. They also include a copper heat sink standard and a new, extended focusing ring. The power was measured using a standard 3-element lens, not a G-1. Please PM if interested.

What is the price for these special ones? And what will the price be for the survival laser II?

Contact me via PM and I'll give you the LPF pricing. The complete SL II bundle will be mid-$400 webstore price.

Re: 1-1.3 watt 445nm Laser Package **ONLY $190 SHIPPED IN THE US**

I just received my Special edition yesterday.

Excellent product. Every component right down to the glasses are top notch. I had it together in about 6 minutes. The only thing that did happen was the tale cap took a second to work (flickered for a few seconds) but now it seems fine.

Anyways, I am writing a proper review and before I completed it I wanted to ask something.

In the "uses" section in the written instructions it lists "all weather fire starting" as the first use. This may be ridiculous but I haven't ever actualy lit something on fire with any of my lasers. Of course, burning holes in paper is always great but lighting a campfire would be awesome and of course who am I to not follow the Instructions :)

So before I go start trying to ignite things, I figured I would ask about some techniques with focus, distance and things that are "safe" to try to ignite.

Thanks all,

Justin Shekoski

P.S. I have been on this forum for a while but as this is my first post, I'm pleased to make your (collective) acquaintance.

Party on Wayne

Hi Justin, welcome to the forum!

Glad you like the product, and thanks for the comments. I've had better results igniting cardboard than paper, which takes a bit more technique. For real-world fire starting, we sell chunks of solid propellant on our valuerockets.com website which makes it much easier. :)

I'm sure that there are others here that can chime in with more advice about lighting paper. Have fun experimenting!

So are you saying the SL2 will be 1.5W and not 1.8-1.9W?

No, the SE produces 1.4-1.5W with the standard 1.20-1.25A driver. the SL2 uses a different driver with a higher current output. Those high efficiency diodes will probably run ~2W in the SL II with a standard lens. :D

Not sure if I missed it, but what's the ETA on the SLII's?
