Quite a beautiful beam, however not near as bright as green would be at that same power...... I'll compare it to a 300mw greenie in brightness.....

remember green is much more visible to the human eye than blue.

having said all of that, the people that work with the high power lasers for light-shows are using green and 445nm a lot as they both look quite impressive, esp. with fog in the air ...
im not expert on laser shows but im studying/reading up on it ...

I suppose your right at a distance anyway... the green will carry longer through the air and still be visible.
I had a 325mw Herc that could be seen from about 5 miles away if I beamed it low to the horizon and pointed it over my dads house.
I later added a collimator and it helped even more.

On that note, these are multimode diodes... which means at considerable distances the divergence will be so wide that the beam turns at best into a weak flashlight.

These lasers are more fit for closer demonstration of burning... by closer, I mean 30 - 40 feet and closer... anything past that the divergence degrades too much.

It can be a bonus if you aren't fond of everyone seeing the source of the beam every time you do something.

Don't get me wrong, the beam of 1.2W+ is quite beautiful streaking across the sky at night.

While most of the photos you see usually exaggerate it since they are long exposure shots.

In real life, the beam has a beauty the camera can't quite catch anyway.... something about the color is striking....
I especially like the 405 beams too... but they are even less visible.

On the other hand, if you had that much burning power in green, you wouldn't be able to use it without glasses as it would be too bright. Plus green can have invisible IR frequency leaked within the beam... especially if its not filtered.
I could not use my green without glasses since the spot was so bright I couldn't tell how the focus was set.
The blue at these higher powers almost have the same problem but are more manageable.

Whereas the blue is much safer IMO since what you see is what you get as far as possible light and harm to the eyes.

i just picked mine up today and im really impressed with it, charged up the batteries and it was just a click and lens adjustment to awesomeness.


one of the first things i pointed it at was the Northern lights if i only had a camera that could capture them both :O

I purchased one of these and am quite happy. The only thing these lack is a way to lock in the focal adjuster cap. As the focus slips when taking off the rubber cap or putting it back on. If anyone knows of a way to lock down the focus on the screw-able lenses, please let me know. Thanks

He said you can use that White tape thats not sticky plumbers use to put around a pipe with threads into another threaded pipe

So take off the focus & then wrap around about 1 1/2 times with the Non sticky tape around the threads and Then you can screw it back in and should be snug

Use teflon tape sparingly and don't let any get in front of the diode window! Also, go to hardware store and find a small spring that fits between the lens and the diode. Not too weak and not too stiff. Clip it to appropriate length. Start a little long, you can always clip more. Place in housing and thread in lens.

If anyone wants the spring that is intended to solve this problem just ask before sending payment. I will not install them though as I fear the spring may shift and accidentally scratch the diode window causing irreparable damage to the laser diode. Your choice, Your risk.

Doesn't the "tape" solve this with out any risk?
