FYI I will be out of the country on the 19th-26th. If anyone is looking for me please relay the message. Thanks!

You'll have to contact yobresal when he gets back.

This laser looks awesome! How many have you sold so far Yobresal?

You could count all the PM mails in this thread and that is just the minimum.

Yob's 445 1-watt is good stuff. Had mine for a couple weeks almost and it's a fun device (but yeah - keep goggles on if using indoors, the reflections are eager to glance off things and go at your eyeballs ! )
Beam is quite impressive in the night-time sky, as well !

Wow you weren't kidding.
One more question....is there an upgrade from the aixiz 445nm glass lens?

EDIT: Thanks, i'll PM Larry or Jayrob.

Thats according to what you consider an "upgrade".
The G-1 is a single glass lens that allows a tad more power to pass at the expense of a wider beam.
The extra power "does not" offset the wider beam.. in other words, the G-1 will not burn as well or pentrate unless you are very close so as the beam does not have a change to diverge..... like closer than 6 - 12 inches.... farther than that, the Aixiz will be hotter.

My G-1 lens is in my drawer... not in my laser... but I had to try it.

If you want to show off your max power on a meter.. use the G-1.

It also depends on what diode...

The 405-G-1 is much more popular with the 12X blu-ray. See here for many details of build components on 12X builds:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/12x-br-diodes-46798.html

With the multimode 445 diode, the AixiZ 445 or AixiZ 405 lens has a much better looking dot at about 15% less power.

For max power at close burning, the 405-G-1 is best. But for the best looking dot and beam for the 445 multimode diode, go with the AixiZ 445 or AixiZ 405...

See 445nm lens comparisons here:

Re: 1-1.2 watt 445nm lasers CHEAP $180 ****OUT OF STOCK****

If you focus a 445 lens against a wall to where its 1/2" long "will be around 25 - 30 feet", then focus the G-1 lens it will be about 3/4 inch long.... meaning the 15% extra power is spread over 50% more space... if you do the math.. that means less burn for distance shots.

I'm not sure where the differences would be considered a wash... I'm guessing somewhere around 2 feet or so.. but maybe less.

I can say that at about 10 feet I can take about 3 seconds of a G-1 lens with these 1.2W lasers on my hand before before I have to remove it. Using the 445 glass I get less than a second and I have to bail!..... even though its 15% less power.

The reason I'm posting my findings... I could not find anyone who would tell me a straight answer about the differences... so I bought both.

I would say if your only going to get one lens.. get the Aixiz 445, of you want to try the G-1 also or anticipate using it for close shots it would come in handy as it does allow more power to pass and at the close distances there is little difference between the two in divergence as it takes distance to make the differences notable.

IMO, divergence is almost more important than power....... a 50W halogen headlight bulb would be quite nasty if you could get all its energy into a pinpoint!....otherwise its a flashlight!
Look at what 8 inches of normal sunlight does when focused through an 8" magnifying glass!

Well if you read my thread on lens comparisons from over 6 months ago (I gave you the link when you contacted me about lenses), I had this same opinion from the very first tests I made with the 445 diodes...

But for max power, and max fire lighting at close distance, you would want the 405-G-1.

Personally, I use the AixiZ 405 lenses on my personal builds. But since they are only half threaded, I always recommend the AixiZ 445, because they are easy to attach a focus ring, or EzFocus adapter...

Yes, and thanks for your candidness when I inquired.
I agree, the 405's are a pain without threads.

Not having the ezfocus is a pain "literally" because its so easy to burn your fingers, but having the large ring I don't like because it gets adjusted just by touching and banging around in your pocket or any surface you lay it on.

I like the "in between"......the focus rings that are midrange in size compared to the outside diameter of the host.... this gets your fingers out of the beam and also gives plenty of leverage for adjustments without accidentally adjusting it from laying it on tables etc.

Just my opinion from the objective viewpoint of a novice! :)

Why is a 405 AixiZ or G-1 sometimes preferable to a 445 AixiZ/G-1 on a 445nm diode?

I don't mean the "because it has a few mW more power" answer I mean WHY does it have a few mW more power. Why isn't the lens that says it is made specifically for 445nm diodes always ideal?

Here is an excellent comparison by DTR....

Again, when you say "preferable"..... its assumed you are stating so because the power meter shows more power meaning the laser is passing more light through the 405 lens, whereas the G-1 goes a considerable step further.

The 405 is a compromise between most power and best divergence.

But as you see by looking at the length of the lines of the beam in that post... the 405 is wider or "longer" than the 445.

So every person will have to decide which they prefer.

As you look at all three lenses, the wider the beam and divergence, the more power is demonstrated on the meter..... not because wider is better, but thats just the characteristics.
Possibly because more glass and steeper cuts on the glass thus bending the rays to bring a tighter divergence involves either more lenses or efficiency losses in the process.

If you really want the "most" power.. and its all about power..... just take the lens completely off!!!... but forget trying to burn anything past point zero!.... and watch out for back splatter towards the diode!

I've played with the 405 also and didn't feel the hassle of being half threaded was worth if for me.

Again, I prefer the tighter divergence for my purposes.

I love burning a leaf on the ground while I'm standing fully upright!.... or other similiar feats from a distance.

If you want the best of both worlds (more power than the 445 and better divergence than the G-1) and the "worst" of both worlds (lowerer power than the G-1 and poorer divergence than the 445), then.. pick the 405.

The 405 is a good performer, but a little extra power when you are already above 1 W does little and actually does worse if the divergence is worse.

IMO, in both cases (ie: G-1 and 405 lens) I feel the extra power is more than offset by worst divergence making the cheaper 445 glass a better choice for me.... .and in my case... money was not a consideration since the lens affects the whole.

At a given distance, if the divergence demonstrated a line that was 50% longer than another lens but the power was only 15% more, that would mean the extra power did nothing to help since it was overpowered by 50% worse divergence "power spread over 50% more area".
On the other hand the game changes with distance.... if you bring the target closer and the beam is only 15% longer, then the 15% extra power would demonstrate a "wash".
Bring it closer yet, and the beam was only 5% longer and the power was still 15% more, now the extra power shines!

This is a poor example, but I have little use for a rifle or pistol that has more power if its less accurate. But somewhere in between there is always an acceptable compromise based on whether I am a sniper marksman, a hunter, or a plunker.

I was just going for looks by making the EzFocus adapters the same diameter as the host, but I could easily make them a smaller diameter if requested... :)

The AixiZ 445 lens and AixiZ 405 lens is named that because of the coating.

The 405-G-1 on the other hand, is also AR coated for this range, but it is a different optical design as well. Also glass quality...

Hey guys, Back in town. Replied to all the messages. Will update when I have then build but will only have aluminum for a short time as my copper heatsink supplier is taking a little longer than expected.

I have 10 aluminum available. Some with dust caps some without as I'm waiting on an order of more of them. Price is $150 each. First 10 confirmed orders take them.
