I beg to differ on the fish wont respond thing ---
I keep South/Central American cichlids and they are VERY aware and reactive to me being in the room (they can see very clearly out to 7 feet or so outside of the aquarium ... no kiddin . And after observing them for years, they are DEFINETLY wise and maybe even 'thinking' .
I know this is waaaay off topic but I had to say something .:yabbmad:

IN MY OPINION:
What makes a great pets : One word " Interaction "
You want a make that response to what u do/say
A dog is great for that but it is too troublesome
A fish is stupid; won't response but not troublesome at all
A Bird is in the middle, it is very responsive, and not troublesome at all

Everyday i bring down my cockatiel siting on my shoulders and walk around the estate
People will always look at me with a " WoW " looking-face because it is nothing they seen before in their life, a bird that won't fly away ( Provided if you tame it well )

A more powerful beam is easier to see at night and for a much longer distance. The fact that a beam is capable of burning can almost be thought of as a "side effect" of the power of the beam. Dealing with the visible spectrum (non IR or UV), you can see a 50mW or even a 5mW beam at night. Will it be very bright? No. Will you be able to see it over a long distance? No, not real well.

With the 1WATT beam, as being sold in this thread, you'll be able to see it, no question. In fact you can even see it the daytime (see previous pics). Now, whether or not you ever want to burn with it is up to you, but it's not a requirement of having a powerful beam.

Well, my 20mw green laser has the same brightness of my 1W blue laser
MAINLY because the human eye absorb green-colours the most, hence green being brighter.
But still, 1W blue is bright yet dull as it is Dark Blue in colour and being "dark" blue, it is camouflaged in the night

Overall, the 1w laser is still cool  the beam is so THICK in the night! =D

What? And a 12x 405nm is invisible for you, rigth?

My 449.3nm is bit brighter than my 240nm 532nm.

Start stacking ND filters in front of the view and see which one extinguishes from sight first.

Yeah u see 1 watt of blue tge same as 300mW of green. So tge beam is VERY bright.

The fact that you can see it at all during the day means it will be quite notable at night!

I had a 300mw green Hercules with a collimator lens on front and I would mount it on a tripod and point it down low towards the horizon towards where my dad lived.
From previous phone conversations I knew exactly where to point it to beam over his house about 5 miles away.

At that distance the beam was still visible even though it looked to be about 30 feet in diameter as it sailed overhead.

Quite impressive driving along and seeing the beam out the window of the car!

I was surprised to see how low I had to aim it to still be visible at that distance as any higher it was disappear.

I don't recommend pointing a beam higher than flat over the treetops and leaving it anyway because of possible aircraft that could happen by and cross the beam.... and rare a possibility as that is.. I'm sure it would get reported since they could see the point of origin as to where its coming from.

Because of being visible... you won't be able to get away with too many attention getting tricks since everyone can quickly see where the source is!

A beam that was invisible and became visible and bright once it hit an object would be much easier to drive someone crazy as they would never be able to figure out where its coming from.

I have little experience with the blue yet but have ordered two.

I have seen what my 130mw greenie looks like next to a 300mw blue and the blue is more spectacular at those powers even though green is easier to see with a given wattage.
Here is a video to demonstrate the differences.
I don't know what power the red was.. but the camera didn't pick it up well..
I had to crank the color saturation on my phone camera to even get these... they were " much" more pronounced in real life... probably fourfold as much...
YouTube - DFW get together. 3 lasers red blue green

Re: 1-1.2 watt 445nm lasers CHEAP $180

I've been playing with mine at work during the last few days. Since it's been overcast the last few days, I could really see the blue dot (splotch) well over 1/4 mile away on a set of tanks on the hill!!!!!!!!
This is a frickin' awesome pointer!

Re: 1-1.2 watt 445nm lasers CHEAP $180

I got my laser on Wednesday and it owns as expected. My glasses are on the way so i haven't been able to burn much but so far, its burning power is incredible. It is just as much fun to play with the magnificent beam as it is to burn stuff.

Pics are coming. Maybe a video?

Thanks yobresal!

Hey Boosted did you get a chance to make any more videos with the laser? The last one you made was pretty impressive, would like to see more

I need to come up with some good ideas, its tough to think of something that hasn't already been done to death. I'll see what I can come up with this weekend...

Edit: I can say I have been burning the hell out of some stink bugs, havent seen anyone post a video of that yet... of course I really don't need an insect activist group throwing bug blood on my door...
