Seems like the thread tape would be an easier solution for most people, unless it gets crappy over time? Does it get hard, or gum up or change w/ the heat? I've only ever used thread tape on compressed air fittings...

With fittings the normal saying is that teflon tape works as long as you don't unscrew it.

It tends to get damaged by unscrewing, so if you use it for a lens it should be replaced now and then.

I'd be careful with the teflon tape that none of it is hanging into the beam aperture. The white could cause a nasty reflection back into the diode and damage it. I think if you stop the tape a few threads from the end that should avoid any chance of reflections and keep any "crumbs" of tape from breaking off and causing another whole bag of potential issues. If you use the tape I'd be very careful when applying it.

So by opening he means other than the lens right? I'm not a burner so I'd like set the beam at it's most optimal beam viewing setting and then never mess with it again.

Yes he is referring to the laser itself. The lens is meant to be adjustable and played with. Just don't try to disassemble the laser components. Pretty much, don't unscrew anything other than the battery compartment and the laser lens.

As for the Teflon tape, there should any issues with it as long as you dont put too much on so that it gums up and tears on the threads.. id say 3-5 wrap around would suffice perfectly. also while yes you dont want anything getting in the way of the beam, reflections back at the diode shouldn't harm it at all, the thing is producing enormous amounts of heat as it is, not to mention the diode is only being ran at about 60% that of which some LPF members have pushed their diode to.

Based on the photo provided I have concluded the problem with the diode is that it is not being focused. Luckily for you this is an easy fix. Okay here is what you do................... TURN THE FOCUS RING UNTIL THE LIGHT CREATES A SMALL SPOT!!!
I would also like to point out that this is the laser operating on an 18650 which is why the power is much lower. Please please please. Read up on laser safety in the 445nm section. Just spend the whole day there and absorb the flood of knowledge that is there. Hopefully by the time you read this post you have already figured this out.

Thanks yobresal got mine in today. Put a little piece of teflon tape on the lens and perfect. Using a 18650 atm while the cr's are charging. Beautiful little laser even with the 18650.

I hope you guy's don't look to close I have a 90mw 405 sticker on it. Could not find my stock of label paper but had this laying around. My eyes are over 50 so it does not matter :can:

What is the duty cycle on these yo? I have an Arctic already and I have run that for almost an hour straight but I want another 445.

It looks about half power using the 18650. yobresal said he did not set this laser for them though. I pop in the cr's for using outside and the 18650 for indoors. Still have to be careful though, I am sure I can blind myself or others still with the 18650 battery.
Don't have a meter so I cannot give that info...

Wow. I got my glasses from OEM Laser Systems so I could finally use mine to do more than take beam shots. It instantly smoked wood and lit a match is about a second once I could hold it steady on the match head. If you have this laser focused to a sharp point you *MUST* wear the correct glasses. In fact you should always wear glasses with this laser focused or not!
