Re: 1-1.2 watt 445nm lasers CHEAP $180

So i bought some regular cr123 3.0v to try out the laser until my charger came and wow its bright. I was wondering if all the light around the dot is normal. as i turn the focus ring this light also spins... here are a couple pictures

and an unfocused one... you can see that same sort of "blotch", i feel like there is something on the lens.

Thanks

That looks abnormal. The focusing lens appears to have a smudge on it or liquid.

You can get a micro-fiber cloth or q-tip and clean the focusing lens. That should work, If it doesn't then I can send out a new lens.

I had a similar problem when I got something on the lens today. Take it off and clean it with rubbing alcohol.

And last question... would anyone happen to know about how much of the power i am getting out of the laser by using 2 cr123 3.0V as opposed to the 3.7V... 3.0V seems so bright already

Should be 1100mW. Both types work.

Ah ok. I thought it wasnt as powerful with 3.0v because I was trying to ignite a piece of newspaper (on a black part) from about a foot an it wouldn't ignite... I guess I didn't have the laser focused perfectly

445s have thick beam profiles by default, so focus when burning is critical. You can usaully get away with 'distance burning' on a 532 because it already has a thin beam. Not so much with 445.

But if you do focus it, it should burn better than a 532.

For those of you who are just getting one of these awesome lasers and have never had a high powered one before please, please (and did I say please?) get some real eye protection. My laser has been pretty much laying on my desk mocking me because my glasses from OEM haven't arrived yet which is why I've only done a few beam shot pics outside from a safe distance and nothing else. They cost me about $85 shipped which is kind of pricey but you can't go buy a new eyeball for any price. To quote styropyro at the end of his video tutorial on building a 1+w blue laser "If you do not wear goggles when using this laser, you are an idiot." (bolding mine)

Yeah the diffuse rays of the laser is so painful!
It wouldn't be fun without googles
