this is a question to those who have bought one of these before and found a phr-803t:

Theres no way to really know which one you'll get. And the DT0811 isn't the older one, it's the newer one. And it is, by no means, a 'weak' diode. The thing will probably do around 100mW, which is pretty good.

oh? i could have sworn i heard the DT0811 was the older one. Must have misread it.
And im interested in making a burner, will 100mW burn?

and alright then. i may not even need to worry though. apparently people dont understand how to bid on ebay.
i started with 11 drives watched. only bidded on two in the last moments and got outbid by like 50 cents :/
now people keep bidding it from like 2 bucks to 20 with several hours left.
argh...
im never gonna get my diode :/

Works for me -- I keep winning bids by 50 cents in the last 10 seconds. I don't bid on computer parts, mostly books. I don't actually bid 50 cents more -- usually a couple dollars -- but ebay only goes up to the next highest 50 cents or dollar.

daguin: ive been checking there quite often. the only source currently is dadeal whos selling em for 27 bucks. a bit over my budget :/
there was the whole broken sleds thing with ndrew, but unfortunately people with larger orders snatched them out from under me :(

hah. well i am new to it. but why in the world would you want to boost the price up by so much so early? i mean unless your in cohoots with the seller and trying to get them more money.

muledeer: hmm, well apparently the elecronics bidders are quicker. ive never heard of people purchasing books on ebay

Well then you're going to have to be both patient and persistent. I usually stop watching one after it gets above $16 WITH shipping included. I still get them every once in a while, but not very often. It was easier when this was a fairly untapped market AND there were still quite a few "broken" ones in inventories. Most of the non-functional caches are gone now. People are paying way too much for a dead format!

$27 isn't much. Be a bit more patient and save up for a couple of weeks. If you do it right, you will have the laser for a long, long time.

Peace,
dave

Yes. You are taking a chance of getting some (and getting some) 0811 sleds. You have to factor in the "temporarily wasted" money you will be spending on them. If I spent $27 on an 0811 sled KNOWING that I could have had an 803T sled from DDL for the same price, I would be disappointed. So, if I only spent $16 for them and then get a few 0811 sleds in the process, I am still ahead :)

Peace,
dave
