The second claim is just as unbelieveable as the first. You haven't made any ground. Don't mind me though.. just an opinion. Although I do suggest you support your claim because I don't think you will have many members convinced. Mind posting a picture of the laser on the meter? I mean.. you did test it..

I am not sure... it seems like this was more of a brag post to your claimed 700mW handheld. Seriously....

I don't have a tester - so basically you are saying that I cannot believe LaserGlow's testing and that they lied to me. This was not a brag post -I was making an honest inquiry to get something better and have been grieved. I didn't know I had to convince people here and that my word would not suffice. - I am still relativerly new to lasers and this forum and had recieved nonjudgemental help during my short time in picking out my herc 475 and herc 650. [rant ends]. Thanks to all (including you Mike :)) for the feedback.

You provided picture and I now insert foot in mouth ;). Now to clear things up do you want a blue (447~473nm)(wont burn) or a bluray(405nm)(eats everything)? If you want a blue that burns you will spend thousands! A 8x(405nm) build will run you about $350-$400 for a monster. Although you have like $5000 in 2 of your handhelds...I don't think building a bluray would be out of the question.

-Mike

EDIT: Your spec sheet is wrong unless <500mW is still class IIIb (it is class IV)

Get that foot back on the floor! -Don't worry bout it - we be on the same team - you just keeping folk honest. I crave maximum burning power so I'm considering actually becoming a hobbyist and building a monster once I get some proficiency building (tearing up) some less challenging handhelds.

As for the class thing I have no clueo- I think they don't regularly produce 500+ handhelds and used the stock notation is my guess.

Good deal! Now get to work on a 8x :p(or pratice on a PHR-803T so you don't frag a $200 diode). So far a few of our members have had their 8x above 500mW. An 8x at 500mW will chew through a lot of stuff! Personally, I suggest that build considering you said you want something different (blue). If you were able to ever find a true BLUE handheld around your hercs power.. you could expect a $20,000 price tag. Just my $0.02

(oh.. foot is down :p )

I have to stand up for Nomad and say that I did personally sell him this Hercules and the power is exactly what he stated. I supervised the final test and the graph is still hanging on my office wall because... well, because it's cool.

Nomad, you may consider buying a simple handheld power meter if you're going to be investing more in this laser collection of yours. That way you can verify, at least to yourself, that you're getting what you pay for. I actually prefer it when our customers have power meters because they usually measure even better results than we do, as our testing methodology is extremely demanding. (My best examples are BrewCityMusic and Windstrings, here on LPF!)

If you want a blue laser with burning power close to your Herc, you will need to use an AC-powered laboratory laser. No handheld will even come close. Take a look here for the best options: Laserglow: Blue & Green Laser Pointer, Alignment & Lab Lasers

Be careful shopping for very high-powered handheld blues, they are usually not as good as you would hope, especially for burning. We've managed to get them up to about 60 mW but no higher, at least not with decent duty cycle and mode.

I've decided to be happy with my green laser for now and worry about blue later. Thanks again for all the help, especially to to Justin for coming to bat for me. I guess I do need to get some kind of meter as suggested.

Almost 2 year old thread, congrats man...

Edit, that google search brings up "Awesome Lasers" as the first result. Fail.

In the interest of having modern information in this thread for potential Google search hits, check out the B/S/T section of the forum. Cheap 1W+ 445nm lasers are the new norm.

473nm is still spendy. :(

Nice 2 year old bump, man. Since then we have discovered 445 and 405, the 2 major burning blu/blue lasers.
