What do you do with your $9 ebay 405nm laser?

I'm curious to see how many different ways these pens are used. Being near ultra violet and a hand held black light, do you use yours for any practical purpose or is it just for amusement?

Just amusement and seeing if anything reacts to UV light. Also I cut the host of mine down to the lens so I can focus it for burning (weakly burning) Ive found a 200mw red wont burn your skin unless there is a dark spot where this "5mw" 405 will sting like a mofo. Shine it on a state ID, there are spots that glow usually.

I bought a bunch of GITD paint and will mist a light coat over a few different surfaces.
This stuff gets bright enough to find your way around a dark room when you use the cheapy 405s on it.

I decorate my lights with glowpowder, 405 charges it up in an instant, without blinding bright light from a flashlight. That way, I can use the glow powder as a light when I'm fishing.

I swear I seen a thread just like this somewhere else earlier. Like today earlier.

Found it :)

Maybe not exactly the same, but this one is pretty close:)

Bought 4 pens, took them apart and used the module and driver to help my better half complete her Glass Project. I thought it looks like a glass jellyfish :)

Chihuly exhibit was in town here for a while. But that jelly fish looks more realistic than any chihuly stuff I've seen.

It looks really like a skeleton to me. Especially the last picture. :)

Thank you guys :) This project was a pain in the butt :) took us an entire night just to assemble all the parts, mount and power the lasers. In the morning, unfortunately one of the students somehow bumped into it during her presentation and broke several "tentacles" off. Too bad I was at work, I'd do the same to him :(

Aww, sorry to hear it got broken. :( I know how disappointed :scowl: you must be but people do strange things when they are excited. Hopefully nobody got cut or hurt in any way. In the grand scheme of things, it's only stuff.
