After I had completed the assembly, I noticed that there were quite a few artifacts and marks along with the beam, much more than usual.  I did some investigating and I found that the clear window on the diode had come loose and was moving around inside. I tried to get the glass out of the way, but I damaged my diode, and now it's an LED. :(

All dressed up and nowhere to go! Since I'm getting another diode anyway, I'm going to try to get an 803t this time. :) Does anybody here happen to have one for sale? I'd even consider one with broken pins (which was how mine became, and I still was able to make use of it).

I was thinking about buying one from him, but I ended up finding a $15 xbox HD-DVD drive on eBay. Hopefully it has the 803t!

I should be getting the HD-DVD drive in the next day or two. In the meantime, I have a couple of questions about the lens I'm using.

You might be able to tell from the photo, but this is a glass lens with a blue coating (don't know the brand, got it from eBay). From what I've found, this is an AR coating which hurts the power output. Does the blue coating always mean that it's AR coated, or can a lens be blue even if it doesn't have the coating?

I can't tell if the coating is on both sides or not, but this is definitely a single-lens assembly. Is there a proven way to remove the AR coating from a glass lens?
