Trouble fitting 803T into AixiZ module

So I recently got all my parts for my Blu-Ray build and extracting the diode from the DVD drive took five minutes and went without a hitch. However, I've been working with the diode itself and the AixiZ module for over an hour now and absolutely cannot get it to sit flush. Here's a picture:

It's not the best picture, but you should be able to see that the side of the diode facing the camera is angled upwards. I absolutely cannot get it flush no matter how I try to press the thing together. I tried styropyro's method of using the other half of the housing to press it in, but all that did after a while was dent the housing.

Any ideas? Will it still work properly angled like that?

I know that HIGH HEAT kills diodes, But maybe if you just sat it on a heating pad, that small amount of heat MAY cause the housing to expand enough to get the diode in without ruining the diode. Just my 2 cents/at your own risk phoenix77/rob

Just tap it lightly with a punch on the side sticking up. ;)

Hmmm, unfortunately I don't have anything like that available at my disposal. This is my first venture into lasers and my toolkit consists of the bare minimum for console and PC repair.

Here's a picture looking at it from the inside sowing how off-center the diode is sitting:

Darn it, everything was going so smoothly up until this point.

Try pushing it back out & starting over, but this time, make sure everything is lined up straight.rob

Yeah, I tried using a blunt tool and a hammer to knock the other side in, but nothing.

As for removing it from the housing, any suggestion on how to do that without shattering the window?

Use a SMALL socket - place the socket over the diode - making sure hte pins don't get mutilated - then place the housing, and the socket into a vise = tighten the vise, and viola ! If you do not have a vise - either spend the $8 to buy one, or use a friend's - don't "tap" it into place, you risk knocking things loose.....and that is bad ;)

I use a #8 machine nut, a pair of pliers and a penny for protecting the threaded lens end to press fit 'em in  works like a charm every time.

I've been using a metal clamp instead of a vice and that's not working for me - is the vice really going to make a difference?

Hmm, alright. I'll pick up a vise then.

I still can't figure out how to safely pop the diode out of the module though. As it is right now, the thing absolutely will not move if I tried to tighten it in anymore, so it's gotta be removed before I can even use the vise. Any suggestions?

As long as you are sure there is nothing under the flange holding it up, just do as suggested by SenKat et al.....If you use a vice it will straighten up as it goes in. As you can on my picture I use a brake adjustor from a bicycle as it is a perfect size, inside and out for 5.6mm LD's

BEFORE DOING SO Remove the lens and spring (I noticed it was in place in the first photo)

I just use the back part of the axiz module flipped around - the pins go into the hole and the flat shape in a vice ensures the diode gets pressed flush
