I vote you take it apart down to the module and test that.

this problem is also happen to my 1W 447nm spartan.
after a week, its mode hopping to TEM01.
the center of the beam is actually blank.
i found that the center of the lens is not on a good condition anymore.
there are a bulge on it.
FYI the lens of spartan is acrylic, not a glass lens.

The spartan's use acrylic lenses on the 1W? What the the hell. I figured they'd know better.
Though lens melting won't be the culprit on the 405nm TJ is talking about. 30-40mW of 405nm which is what these pens average, isn't going to melt an acrylic. Plus if it was a melted lens, it wouldn't change depending on the orientation of the laser like is happening here.
