I dont have any GITD surfaces.

Anywho, I'm not tripping. Blu-Ray is my favorite color, I've owned a few. The trace looks like a ribbon. Glowing on the top and bottom, and dark in the middle.

Edit: OK, tried my web cam and you can see it!!! Its over exposed a little but you can plainly see the line between the beam, and the thickness of the beam. It only does this when you shake the laser around.

Does shaking the laser vertically cause this to happen? I guess if it did you couldn't tell... :p

When you shake it (the laser... ;) ) can you hear any loose optics rattling?

If the chinese can make mode hopping 405 lasers then they can do anything :p

its probably dirt, loose lenses or a 405nm DPSS laser, LOL

Yep, the Chinese have run out of 405 diodes so now we have 405 dpss lasers, I guess we are going to have to live with mode hopping 405s, what's next? A mode hopping IR?

No, nothing rattling around. I thought maybe a loose lens, but it sounds solid.

If it was dirt it would not go back to TEM00.

I got the first mode hopping 405nm laser, and it only cost me $3. :na: Tell me you're not jealous. :yh:

mebbe it's a high power being underdriven?

Loose optics sounded like the best fit, and generally speaking you can hear the lenses rattling if they're loose, so that's not the cause.

Damn.

If it were hitting the side of the aperture, there'd be more splash.

If it were dust, there'd be more splash.

I'm at a loss. Just try shaking it then; dancing might make you feel better about the laser... :shhh:

point it down and give it a few gentle taps (like a ketchup bottle except gentle), keep it pointing down and turn it on. if you get the tem01, then its pocket lint. new wish blu-rays have a lot of space for lint to hide.

Update.

It seems the space between the spots is getting bigger. From ~6' it was ~4" in between. When I stopped the second spot stayed for a second and went out. It was 2 perfectly round spots.

Could I have a cracked lens that only separates when its pointed up and moving? I've lurked here for a long time and never seen anything like it.

Loose optics might account for it. I've seen some odd stuff out of aixiz 3 elements that weren't tight. What kind of host is it again?

Hmm. o_O Those just have normal acrylics in them as far as I can tell.. You say it doesn't rattle?

You know what I think it actually might be? I think the diode window might have come loose, or one side might be barely attached so it flops back and forth.

I vote you take it apart down to the module and test that. :p

Until then we're only speculating. ><
