Hi All,
I was sent an 8x, (well 320mW pulsed from the spreadsheet which means the same!), diode to test and would appreciate your seasoned eyes being cast over the results.
First of all, the threshold seems a little high to me and I've not seen any on graphs reaching Vf of 6.5V!
The outputs seem to be in the right ballpark but not knowing just how to plot an appropriate graph on Excel, I can't really compare. (Any tips on this gratefully received!)
Anyway, here are the results.
Lasing threshold 4.15V @ 39mA, 5mW
V--------mA-------mW
4.35------50-------19
4.72------75-------51
5.0------100-------79
5.25-----125------112
5.45-----150------142
5.62-----175------175
5.78-----200------205
5.88-----225------235
6.0------250------265
6.08-----275------295
6.18-----300------324
6.23-----325------352
6.27-----350------377
6.33-----375------405
6.39-----400------432
6.44-----425------458
6.49-----450------481
It winked out as a Class IV leaving a peak reading of 503mW but I don't know what the other readings were for sure.
I simply ramped up this table without waiting for cooling at each reading. I stopped a couple of times but once warmed the numbers returned to the same as before switch off.
These readings were taken with a full threaded Aixiz 3 element lens so if comparing to any 405-G-1 readings there should be around a 15% higher reading than mine.
At first glance these seem to be the right outputs for an 8x but not terribly efficient. Am I correct?
This is just one diode so there may be others with better specs but for a bare diode, (not extracted, it looks like it's never been in a sled!), it is interesting to see. Long pins and no detectable adhesive, just pretinning at the very tips of the pin. The part numbers and data sheet I've been shown describe a BDR-203 diode but maybe they never met the desired spec to be installed. What do you think? These may be a cheap 8x source.
Thanks for the reading...
M
