stupid fun glasses trick

I got bored at work, so started playing with my 5mW 405 pointer. I was curious if my glasses filtered out UV, so I shined the laser through my glasses (not while wearing them, duh). I was surprised (though I shouldn't have been had I thought about what I was doing) when the spot dimmed, leaving a dark spot on my glasses. They're "transition" glasses (darken in sunlight, due to UV exposure).

Well, since then I've had some fun coloring dark spots (for large pupils), making large circles, and even writing "HI" on the lenses. The darkened area fades after about 10 minutes or so. I need new glasses anyway, so am not worried about causing any damage. As they say, YMMV...

Like I said - "stupid fun" :yh:

Thanks for sharing.... I think I read something similar using
glasses that darken in the Sun on the Forum recently...

My father has one of those glasses, they react to UV light and are dim outside and clear inside. Very cool stuff.
I drew him the dollar sings on them HAH
However in my case, it was inside, it faded on less than 5 minutes.

We may have seen transitions vs 405 before but "pics or it didn't happen".

Anyone have some transition film or lens they would part with? I recall there use to be brochures available with a transition film sample in it.

With higher powered pointers you'll ruin the transition coating. Not a good idea.
