Default Sony 700mW 12X S06J Laser Diode

Sony 12X S06J Laser Diode

Been working off Morgans old testing data and the graphs that were made from it which can be seen here.

New kid on the block? The 12x BDR-S06J

So here is a nice new testing thread on it. It has been around a while so no need for long introduction. Test done with a G-2 lens. Max running current I suggest is 500mA.

Wow that's alot specified testing
I haven't yet looked at your other's again but it seems that for each .003A you get 5mw's of increase till you start pushing it towards the end. This gives someone a great heads up to what they can expect.
Would this mean this is a very efficient diode or something worded to that extent?

This diode seems to be fairly average efficiency. Most blue/violet diodes seem to end up around 25-27% efficiency, this one seems to be right in that range at 500mA current.

Yep diode was pretty spot on with previous tests. I don't see a lot of variation in efficiency on the 405nm diodes.

I did go back and randomly looked at some of your other diode tests and didn't see that consistent increase with settings. Also with this diode it seamed to hold right up to the 700mw as rated in the name.
As i'm not up to the real technicals as the experts here, is this on 700mw "par" just coincidence?

The model doesn't actually have 700mw in it's name.. actually, we don't know the model # of this (or the Pioneer BDR-209) diode at all... it is called the S06J diode since S06J is the model # for the blu-ray drive that the diode was harvested from.

Though we don't know *exactly* what these diodes are rated to output (at least until [or if] we find the data sheet and part# for them), AngelG made a logical extrapolation (at Pioneer 16X BDR-209DBK) from the known ratings of diodes in 12X burners which resulted (for BDR209 diodes) an expected 300mw CW/600mw pulse rated output (driven at a predicted 350mA drive current) to achieve a rated lifetime before failure (~10Kish hours).. meaning that most are overdriving the *1iving 5hit* out of those diodes which is undoubtedly the reason for so many "another dead (S06J/BDR209) diode" or "17th blown 405" threads or whatever.
