Ok, so I've been lurking around this website researching the art of building lasers for quite a while now, and plan on buying some parts to make my first build soon. I have a few questions my time searching has failed to turn up, however.

1. I plan to modify a 2xAA flashlight to (eventually) house the laser. My questions is, if I'm using a PHR-803T 405nm diode and a microdrive, in order to get ~100mw out of the thing, would I be able to do so with AAs, or would I need to pick up some of those specialty lithium batteries I see making their rounds here? I'm really no electrical engineer, so stuff like this is foreign to me.

2. Regarding the host: speaking from experience, how difficult would you say it is to incorporate a laser into a custom host? Obviously this depends from host to host, so is the one I am considering: Small Sun ZY-203 LED Flashlight (2*AA Batteries) - DinoDirect.com

:thanks:

1. Yes, the microboost is a buck/boost driver so it will be able to power the PHR.

2. Depends, some hosts are easier to work with than others, it mainly comes down to how they are assembled. If you want a good 2AA host you could always try a mini mag with a tail clicky, i believe jayrob still sells heatsinks for that host and would make assembly that much easier and cleaner.
