OK so after the delights of a PHR-803t build, which was deliberately oversimplified (i'm a noob lol), but turned out well and taught me a bit. I.E. heat produces artifacts on the diode.....
I am now going for a more complex BDR-S06J build (gonna keep it <500mw I think, but with a three element lens this should make up for it falling a few mw short).
First question: any suggestions?
next one: here is what I have ordered so far:
405nm Violet 500-600mW 12X BDR-S06J Laser Sleds/1 pcs 405nm High Power LD Inside | eBay (sled)
2pcs adjustable current laser diode driver 80-500mA w/TTL | eBay (driver)
I have a module and 3-ele lens otw as well. The driver seems to be the right one and will let me serial 2x 3.6v Li-ion (protected flat cells) for a total of 7.2v which should supply the driver "header?" voltage and diode voltage allowing me the full 800mAh reserve (anyone verify this?)
Thinking of putting it in a 2D maglite, and maybe turning my own heatsink (I inherited 2x lots of engineering stuff lol... inc. a steel lathe) out of copper.
Also, would this be better if I actively cooled it (bear in mind I live in UK... not overly warm ) using a 6v fan in parallel with the driver? so activating the beam turns on the fan.
Thinking also of giving it a USB jack maybe for that professional "can plug it in the PC to charge" look
Peace.
ps 405nm interacting with gemstones looks awesome, I gotta post a video when i get it set up properly.
