Since they're from a blu-ray player they're just going to be a few milliwatts, not worth it really when you can get a working 5mW+ 405 for $8 on eBay.

Even juiced up they'll be only a few mw? Like you mean they'll burn out before they get to a higher out out?

If you want to build a laser pointer to make your cat run in circles , this diode will work.
You could just look on ebay for a < 5mW violet .
I suggest that if your looking to burn tape or pop balloons, you look around the forum or buy at least a diode from from phr803T sled here"http://hightechdealz.com/" and driver from here"http://rkcstr.nfshost.com"
If you want higher powers look around the forum or high tech dealz while your there

I have the bluray diode out of a samsung player just like that I run it at 115ma and it puts out ~70mw it was my first laser build. It lights matches pops balloons and does all the normal tricks.
