@JohnD I'm looking at buying a nice how powered green and have been looking WL, O-like, and Rayfoss.

WL is my number 1 since i've ordered with them before but has the highest prices per mW along with lower mW outputs compared to the other sites plus everything is out of stock right now so means more waiting.

Rayfoss.com the closest to actually buying but besides hearing good things, most of my research has come up with that they are good for a "cheap" laser but overall most people wished they spent more on a nicer one with lower divergence etc. Plus seems like i have haerd of a few broken ones. the ones i really liked were in the waterproof housing.

Then O-like, good prices, lot of choices, but heard quality is hit or miss and that they are slipping more towards being unreliable for quality laser.

I know if i want real quality, means i have to pay for it, but i want a nice laser that won't break. any suggestions?

@Gixxer331 - I'm hardly the expert on buying from these cheaper companies, however I've heard it's hit or miss with most of them. If you want consistent high quality and often overspec, you'll have to pay for it. Many people wouldn't know the difference between 400mW and 500mW, but as I've emailed the owners of each company, letting them know I'm a LPF member and have a power meter, which I'll use immediately after opening the box, hopefully I'll get what I'm paying for.

As for Wicked, well, that's going to be hit or miss as well. Why did they suddenly lower prices? Did they wake up? Are they using a fast/cheap manufacturer now (so quality won't be even close to what it was)? I'll let you know when my 6 lasers I've ordered from them arrive. :p

My O-Like order has shipped, so hopefully that'll arrive this month. I have 3 lasers coming from them, but already own the 200mW gatlin, which measures a pretty steady 180mW for the record.

Most of my collection is tubes to date - solid state is relatively new to me. I'm going to do a few builds as well. That's the great thing about this hobby - there's always more to learn, new wavelengths showing up, and things you've never done before. I still have a Melles Griot catalog from 1995 on the shelf, sitting next to my MWK Industries catalog from the same year! I think I'll flip through those and reminisce...

Anyway, I'm rambling, but watch the reviews for new O-Like and Rayfoss models. As a general rule, you do get what you pay for, so don't expect them to be on par with a CNI, etc.

Has anybody heard ANYTHING from WL regarding the Sonar? I'm moving in a week and a half and I really really dont want to have to deal with an address change given how hard it is to contact customer support right now.

Yep, talked to them today, say they are expecting them at end of this week or begging of next, same thing i heard three weeks ago. I doubt you will receive it before you move, how far away are you moving? is it in the same region? if so it will go through the same UPS hub and you can pick it up yourself there. Or you could just cancel your order and then reorder using new address.

That would be great, but I'm actually moving away to college in Boston from Seattle. I think I'll just have my parents ship it to me when it arrives... Still a major pain, seeing as I ordered over a month and a half ago.

Yea i ordered mine then too, but if its going to your parents house then yes, that is probably the easiest. My dad lives in Boston, thinking about spending the month of August there. There are about 200,000 college kids in Boston between the 30 universities (I really don't know how many schools there are, but the number of students i believe is fairly accurate, or so I've heard. My dad is always telling me that's where I need to hang out to meet girls! lol). Fun town, you have to check out Mike's Pastry in the North End, I love going there when i'm in the area.

So I'm going to hijack this thread real quick and say that you will certainly enjoy Boston. I live 20 minutes away and I'm there more than once a week. Mikes Pastry is seriously one of the BEST things in Boston. For cannoli's though, go to Marias. Its right outside the entrance to the North end. Also, if you're looking for pastry or bread at 3am, Bova's is open 24hours. If you're going to be in the area of all the colleges (around huntington ave and such), you DEFINITELY need to hit up The Upper Crust for pizza. Theres so much to do in and around Boston, you certainly wont be disappointed.

Now, as for being on topic, I ordered my Sonar Lunar back on july 8th. I still dont have it. I'm getting reeeeal antsy. I want it. Like now.

@ntwknick, where do you live? when i'm there i'm actually in North Andover, about 20 minutes northeast of Boston. I go to Mike's Pastry for tiramisu and cappuccino, both are amazing! Not much of a canoli guy, obviously i'm not truly from the east cost! lol

Yea I also ordered mine on July 11th, so I've been waiting almost as long as you have and i'm also getting really antsy! Last i heard they started shipping them and will continue over the next 3-4 days. I've also heard they are finally shipping the G2 Arctic's, it all seems too good to be true!!

Sounds like y'all should be talking to WL. If someone gets one, post a review. In the mean time . . . .

Peace, dave
