Question about power loss

Hi All,

Been lurking for a while. I have a 405nm system that I purchased off ebay (see pic). It looks like it's using a generic diode like this one: http://www.aixiz.com/store/images/405sp1axw.jpg. It has a 3-element adjustable lens with fan and driver. When I received it, I measured power output to be ~321mW @ ~ 350mA and 12.5V into the driver. I put it aside for awhile, but now when I turn it on the driver still consumes the same power, but the optical output is much, much lower: ~ 0.3mW according to my Coherent meter.

I'd be grateful for any thoughts as to what might have happened and how to fix it if possible?

Thanks!

Measure the current going in to the diode from the driver, if it is in line with what is expected for the normal output, then the diode is probably zombied. If the current is low, then the driver may have faulted.

Guys,

thanks for the responses! I haven't had a chance to test direct driven current/power because it looks like my handheld Coherent meter is either broken or doesn't work well with 405nm. I have a new Ophir that should arrive any day.

I'll definitely try to test the current going to the diode along with the power once I get the meter and post a follow-up here.

Cheers
