Putting together a Bluray Laser!

Hey guys,

I'm new here, and also fairly new to the laser scene. I recently got the desire to build a laser after having to replace my laser assembly in my PS3.. So today I ordered a few things from HighTechDealz:

Aixiz Module
405nm Diode
3x 3.6V AA's
3405 MXDL Host

Now initially I wanted to run the MicroFlexDrive but the 3-5V input slipped my mind (always seem to happen) when ordering batteries and charger.. If I want to utilize the batteries I ordered, what would be my best driver choice for this build? I don't want anything extreme, just something that will power my diode and fit well (I do have a goal to burn) with that voltage?

Any input will be great guys. Though I am new to the laser scene, I'm not new to the 'electronics' scene. A few days on this forum and I'll learn mostly everything I'll need to know!

Thanks,
Matt

The rckstr is a good driver instead of the $10 more expensive FlexDrive by DrLava. You would want to get it set to a certain mA though... Don't forget to get a heatsink which if you search for jayrob mxdl it will show you his heatsink for that host that you have right now... Good luck with your build if you have any more questions just ask away

also you should watch this vid to give you some pointers this is a cr123 flashlight host though, but it's basically all the same

You also could get complete modules from thishttp://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-complete-modules-44555.html it's a really good deal and it comes with the axixz module, diode, driver it's way cheaper and you won't accidently mess up on the hard part if you just order one of these.... Too bad he doesn't have a sale like before, but it's still a good price

Thanks for the reply man. I'm about to pay jay for the heatsink, so I have that covered. As for the rckstr driver, how would I go about setting it to the specific mA? I know about the dial, but making sure I have it set correctly is the important part.

Thanks!

If you can ask for a refund from hightechdealz because if you buy a completed module from moh.. it's already preset.. you have all the neccessary voltage, but if you can see if you can get a refund for the diode and the axixz module... because i just bought a completed module you'll have to ask moh... just pm him.. I'm new in this as well and i don't really know how to put together a module i know how to do it, but just i don't know how to set the driver current...or mA.. In the long run it will be the same price also or even less

I personally don't mind putting everything together and in fact its one of the reasons I'm excited to get my stuff in =). As far as I know, you can buy modules separately set to your requested mA. The problem is I just don't know what module to buy.

Sorry, I meant drivers! However I'm about to buy the full module as you showed me earlier anyway. I'll just keep spare parts with my order from HighTechDealz.

Ok.. he delivers it pretty fast too i got mine in like 5 days :)...Good luck on your DIY i'm still doing mine waiting for jayrob to get his 3405 host so he can start building it and then sending it to me... i think you're build is going to be cheaper since i opted for the lead wires and the host and heatsink.. total of 56 including shipping, my total is 76... but batteries also so i guess 86

Nope because its really difficult to make em so 25 is really reasonable

YEAH, each heatsink has to be individually machined to exact dimensions on a lathe, so $25.00 is VERY REASONABLE IMO.......... rob

It's good, but the flexdrive is better. Sure, it might be $10 more, but you easily get that $ back when you realize you don't have to spend extra $ on the li-ion batteries + charger. With flex, you can use standard AA or AAA batteries.

oh...after reading ur first post, it looked like u were talking about the PS3 diode, and hooking it up. Well, i think u cant burn with it...not sure though..

(edit) oh u ordered a diode...then it will burn...no one would buy anything less than a PHR i guess(edit)

I would spend 10$ more anyday for a drive that works properly. From what Ive heard about those rckstr, they dont actually maintain the mA very well through battery life. To spend 10$ more and get a driver that maintains mA almost perfectly throughout a full to empty battery is very much worth it in my mind.
