My friend has two ps3 diodes and i was just wondering in all of your opinions would it be worth it to take the time to build these ie. get a host and driver and all that jazz........i mean it would be my first build and i kinda wanna burn stuff with it but I would like to just get a SUCCESSFUL build under my belt

They make great low powered pointers, their max current being ~40mA, so you won't be burning anything, maybe if you had a magnifying glass and were steady and patient. You can get a prebuilt '5mW' (all I've seen have been overspec by quite a bit, hence the ' ') but it wouldn't provide the satisfaction of your own hands putting together the laser. I say go for it! Welcome to LPF and be sure to post pics when you're done if you go for it!

Much less than $50 if you build your own driver, and buy one of Moh's hotlight kits for like $20.
