I have a blu ray laser from a ps3. I want to know how to make it work and set it up. Where can i get resistors from and how can i make a laser from this? What is a good driver for this?

Please do search around on the forum before you ask questions, many questions have been answered already. First off, safety first. Read and understand everything about laser safety and how to protect yourself from going blind. Then, search around on how to extract the diode and press it into a module, and how to provide adequate heatsinking and make a laser diode driver.

Here is a link to a linear driver thread. http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/diy-homemade-laser-diode-driver-26339.html

Do i need a heatsink, driver and capacitor for my laser? Im going to use a aixiz module.
Where can i get resistors?

Yes you need a heatsink and a driver, if you are building your own driver then you'll need a capacitor and resistors. Please do look around the forum, and search up the "I want to build a laser" thread, you can learn a lot by reading around. If you are too lazy to look around, I don't think you should build a laser. Lasers are complicated and picky devices, it is quite easy to accidentally destroy a diode.

Thank you for your help. I am new to this forum and this is my first time being on one. :yh:
But where can i get resisitors i searched around for them but i cant find them

You can get resistors at RadioShack if you don't want to shop online, or online on ebay for very cheap.

I also don't know what driver to use. I want to use a 9v battery. How many volts should the driver be?

To make a laser diode driver you need more than a resistor. How is that post not helping you? It contains everything you need to know to build a driver. All you need to know is how much current the laser diode needs. Without the knowledge of how much current the laser diode needs, you won't be able to drive it at all. Laser diodes are very picky, you can easily kill one by giving it a bit too much current. One resistor isn't enough, your diode WILL die if you only use a battery and a resistor. If you read that thread I linked you would know this.

Everyone has to start somewhere - this forum is for sharing of information and not everyone is an electronics expert... unless some people are born with an innate ability to build circuit boards.... (which no one is) so give the guy a little slack.

I have a 50k ohm resistor, a LM317T driver, a Aixiz module, 9v battery and blu ray diode. Do i have everything i need to construct this laser?

Yes, now you just need to find out how much current it needs. Try searching around to see if anyone else has used the same diode. Also, search around and learn about test loads, you'll need one once you find the correct current to drive your diode at. Without a test load to set your driver, your diode won't last very long.

If you didn't know, people on this forum do not enjoy "spoon-feeding" people all the information they need. People here like to see new members commit to the project and search up the answers to their questions, and not ask a question that has already been answered before. I started out with no knowledge of electronics and building circuits, and yet I have read my way to my current amount of knowledge with no problems whatsoever. No offense, kyle1, but next time, do a bit more searching before posting, you could have probably found the DIY Homemade Laser Driver thread yourself.

Yes but as he said he's never been on *any forum so he's not accustom to rule of thumb which is true across all discussion boards.... (search first, dont flame, be nice, stickies etc) Anyway as technical as I am (15 years of engineering exp), I don't have a clue how to assemble a working laser as much as I'd love to. I'm terrible at soldering. :undecided:
