I have had a pocket sized host obsession recently and here is the latest

I dont normally document much my builds so I thought I would give it a shot here. A lot of this is pretty easy to follow by the pictures so I will not narrate too much. Please excuse the picture quality...its a camera phone.

I had a 12X diode that has been sitting in its sled for about 6 months so I figured it was time!

I wanted something unique for this so I went down to the lathe and came back up with this.

The largest diameter has not been turned down because it happens to be the right diameter as is!

Using a vise, a file and some pliers I extracted the diode successfully. There is not much room behind the module for the pins let alone the solder joint and heat shrink so I kept everything very short and compact.

I chose a Jib 501mA driver since they are such a great price!

While I waited for the arctic silver to harden I modified the 3xAAA battery holder so that it will function with 2x10440 li-ions. I just bridged the positive contact and spring with a piece of wire soldered to each side.

By the time I finished modifying the battery holder the driver was dry

Then I just attached my positive lead to the contact and my negative to ground.

Fully assembled

Thanks for looking. I will try to get some beam shot tonight.

Extremely clean work. Looks professional. Well done.

I am about to start building my 12x and was wondering whick driver to use. Since I have a flexdrive laying around, I was thinking of using that, but seeing your thread, I wondered whats the driver you used here. What kind of driver is it? I haven't done any reading lately :yabbem:

Its a Jib driver. It comes set at 501mA which is perfect for 12x IMO. This thing burns better than my 1.5W 445nm by far. I didnt meter it yet because these batteries are not fully charged so I didnt want to do it an injustice.

I fully recommend this driver just keep in mind its not a boost driver so you need higher voltage and its a bit thicker than a micro____ drive. BUT its $9 shipped and it shows up in a few days after purchase

Thanks for the kind words

Nice build! What would you recommend for my first build? I know you have to buy a driver,a diode, a host, and a heatsink. Is a green laser a good laser to start off building?

You cant really build a green laser....well some have but in reality its CRAZY difficult. You can order a green module and just mount it in a host.

I would suggest you start with a 660nm LOC diode. They are cheap and powerful.
