DTR, do you recall what you set mine at? I was thinking I went with your recommended max of 700mA. I can't imagine it's any lower. Higher possibly, but not lower, there's no way I could be getting this output at 600mA.

Yea everybody except Shakenawake that ordered out of the first batch got 700mA.

Also, any word on when you might be testing the 9mm 3.5w 445? I am so tempted to get one but I have given you so much of my money lately I might need to come back for a loan someday soon. This is an addictive hobby, much more that I could have expected. You realize DTR your profiting on some of our moral weaknesses and addictive personalities. Hope you can live with that and sleep well at night. There might be little children going to beg hungry tonight because daddy had to have his laser fix and you are so willing to accommodate......

My Ophir was just sent back to me but only problem is it only reads up to 5W with the standard Rubicon. Need to upgrade to the 10W version. So at least I can get some data up to 5W. No worries I have not slept much in the last two years if it makes you feel any better.:undecided:

I wish I had waited until you got yours. I could have gotten it all in one kit. Now I'm buying piece-by-piece.

just got mine. it's not a ton brighter than my old 500mW 405, but I was not expecting it to be. it does burn much better, even burned my white wall focused to infinity using a 3 element, even more so with the g lens obviously. can't wait for the host and heatsink now. I obviously kept the duty cycles at like 10 seconds in just the module. I'd have stuck it in my DominatoR heatsink but with the driver in the module it does not fit. DTR is the man, fast shipping as always.

and folks, he has the new 700mW rated 638 coming. maybe the days of the mitsubishis are over, no fancy correction needed, if we are lucky. (sorry CDBEAM777) I saw it on his site and asked why no thread, he responded saying he didn't even have them yet. look for it soon. Here's hoping >1W is possible, at safer currents than the mitsubishis. might sell my 638 after all

Got mine in monday and slapped it into a SkyRay host I've had sitting around. Haven't had a chance to meter it yet, but it is brighter than my 12x ~500mW build, and will scorch wood from 8 feet.

got my purple plug n burn and plugged. had to cut the leads from the module and the kit as short as possible before I did a solder splice with heatshrink. hardly any room for the wires with the module all the way in. 1W of single mode 405nm glory. well, actually, I'm not sure what the output is, it is certainly over 900mW. I think DTR forgot to LPM it for me, I did go the .6A route unlike everyone else, but don't think I did not want 1W too. I am just wanting the diode to live a long time, watching my duty cycles, I'll give up 100mW for that, this thing can still burn white colored stuff from many yards away, very impressive

thank you DTR and mrcrouse for getting me this 405 fix for under $170. this diode is amazing. smaller than the 12X, but more powerful. truly incredible. my only problem with 3.8mm diodes is that their windows are very hard to clean compared to 5.6mm and 9mm diodes. I am anal about my diode windows and lenses being as spotless as possible. one thing I do like about open can diodes, no dang window to get dirty. oh my look at the time

I would have ordered the module from DTR, but I'm going to be buying the drive off of Amazon, since I had already bought 3 blank modules from him.

I already have the c6 host with copper heat sink ready to go, with driver heat-sinked to the pill with wires coming out, and the battery contact in place. It's all ready for the diode.

Never made a complete laser like that including extracting from a drive, so it will be a fun experience :)

I'll make sure and post a thread with my completed build and LPM results.

now I've had the chance to compare it with a slightly lower powered 12X 405 side by side.

Just as with higher powered 445s vs lower powered 445s, the less powerful one seems more violet, and who knows, maybe the lower one is closer to 404, and the new one is closer to 406, doesn't matter to me.

Unless I am crazy, I'd say these new ones heat up faster. I have them in identical hosts and heat sinks, and pretty sure it's not in my head, though I have not taken the temp. watch those duty cycles.

Double the power. I'm pretty sure it's not in your head either :)

Just got one of these drives and tore it apart today. Focusing mechanism in it was pretty neat. I think I am going to mount this into a few ounces of copper and use a TTL lab supply and make it into a small wood burner/engraver. I love UV

Hello i just received my host diode driver combo and put it together and after about 15 second it starts to blink at around 10-20 hz maybe even 30 i am not sure but the first 10 secs are fine then it blinks so safely id say 650 mA cause i selected mine for 700mA i am going to post a video of it on youtube to show how fast and how powerful this is!!!! it burns wood plastic everything
-Edit inside the Chunk and Trustfire Legit 18650
-Edit First It starts blinking slowly then speeds up as time goes on keeping this laser off for now!

Have you tried a different cell? A slow blink could mean overheating but rapid pulsing usually is a current issue either from a bad cell or a weak contact point in the host.

Jordan said most of us went with 700ma. Hopefully we all won't have dead diodes in a week :p

Lol i hope not here either unless you want to send me a detailed desription of how to turn the pot DOWN!:undecided: well then another @ .6A?:anyone:
Most likely i Will not even try to open the module just Wondering

Charge your battery or change your battery. You probably have a battery that's not charged up or, if it is charged up then I bet it's a cheap Trustfire battery that isn't really an 18650 (contains a cell inside with maybe 100mAh). Either way I bet you solve your problem with a fresh battery.
