Hey LPF, finally fixed this baby up!

First of all, I'd like to thank rocket689 for supplying me with this host and heatsink! He really went the extra mile and put an amazing polish on the face of the heatsink! Thanks rocket, I love this! I know you sold me this in like February or something, but I assure you this has already been utilized before now!

I've loved the idea of building a PHR-803t into the timeless Blue Hotlight host. This laser is beautifully complimented by its "Big Brother" a.k.a my Red Guidesman as seen <here>. It just seemed like a sort of "rite of passage" to do. I think it came out well with the BenBoost in there. I can use 3 AAAs to give it a good runtime. And down the road I could use a single Li-ion in there or even put 3 NiMH AAAs in there for a sweet runtime!

Story about that... I originally put in an 805 with a DDL driver, as you'll see, but then swapped the 805 for the classy and classic 803 went with a BenBoost because I could run it off of alkaline instead of two 10440s and a bridged battery holder. Oddly, after about a week after I put it together, it crapped out all of the sudden! I tried another 803 in there immediately which also blew out! The PHR-805 ran fine with it when I took it out of the Hotlight to test. But I got the courage to replace the blown 803 with a new one and it seems to work fine. Hopefully this diode is more robust and will last!

Anyway, here are some pictures of the host and the original DDL I used. Like I said before, I ended up using a BenBoost, which fits perfectly and is about the same size as the "free-hand soldered" 317 so no further adjustments were made.

When I chose to use the BenBoost, I hadn't realized that the BenBoost was not able to provide regulated current through the case of a host. So I happily swapped out the 805 for a good ol' PHR-803t. I don't know what it is about the 803t, but I like it a bit more than the 805s. Probably due to their versatile case neutrality! And here it is... in all its 405nm photonic glory!

Hey! Thanks for the kind words :)
I got this host off a member a few months back at an awesome price. I don't know if he has any at the moment as these have been hard to come by lately since most people already built lasers into them.

No problem. I'm in the process of building a phr805t rite now. Just waiting on the diode.
