I have my blu-ray diode mounted in a meredith glass lense and the dot gets smaller when you bring the lense in closer but it's still not focused when it's in as far as it can go. I'm only running it at about 25mA which was just enough to make it turn on. Am I running it at to low of a power or is it dead? I also just got my red diode working and it focuses when you move then lense further out... so yeah :'(

Did you use the 5.6mm adapter? If so, did you press the diode all the way into the adapter. It needs to go farther in than just "flush" with the back surface. It needs to be pressed in until it is all the way against the front part of the adapter.

Somebody posted a picture somewhere. If I find it, I'll edit this.

Peace,
dave

Yeah, I made if flush. What should I push it in with? I was hard enough to get it flush.

I use a modified air fitting. You just need something with an ID large enough for the pins to fit in, but with an OD under 5.6mm.

Sweet, thanks! Also, should I do the same for my red diode, or leave it flush?

I push the red diodes up too, now, but that is just because I use the tool I modified to press diodes into an Merideth adapter. As long as it is focusing up close for you, it doesn't matter. It won't get more powerful.

Sorry TheGr8evealing. Between my students, my rock & mineral lists, and these forums, I field over 200 messages a day. I often forget the details.

Your picture of the placement of the diode in a Merideth adapter saved me from throwing a VERY good laser out the window and helped me build more.

Thank you.

Now quit whining and stock up on prophylactics for the weekend.

Peace,
dave

I had to take down one of my argon pics because of this... didn't even notice until after I posted it. I took a new picture and put it back up. ;D
