Does the PHR-803T need proper heatsinking? (if driven at 150mw) or does it require a simple Aixis module. Does the PHR-803T fit my needs for a laser diode that will ignite things roughly 2 inches away from the lense? or will another diode do better?

I've allready bought a PHR-803T sled and the cheapo driver that was posted on someone elses build, i have test load components coming in, bought small "A10" size batteries for the power source, (i know: they will burn out rather quickly, but they are cheap, and will serve my purpose) I need to get a new safety switch (mine is too big) i have a momentary switch the Bic lighter disasembled.

Really the only thing i need atm is small mini magnets to hold my batts together. Any advice would be great: also i allready fixed my issue with the diagram below, got a better connection diagram on another "picture."

Re: Hello, curious question...

Well: yet again, perhaps i am probably not going to get the shipment as planned, so:
where is the cheapest place to get a PHR-803T?
Also: Drivers required? the driver they advertised i heard came from a cheap 5 dollar laser pointer, does this same driver have the capability of driving the laser diode i want to drive (in the PHR-803T).
Also I know, everyone is going to be like "blah blah, kipkay bad blah that"

I'm not "using" his design, but using his idea, and planning on trying to make it in the safest way possible. Safety switch+proper housing/heatsink+proper driver+insolated housing. Thats at least my plan. I could draw a small picture and put it up in a day or two, the basic idea should work, just compacting "everything" as opposed to "extending everything."

Re: Hello, curious question...

A simple LM1117 / LM317 driver must be ok ..... something similar:

Using LM1117 instead LM317, you need a little bit less power supply voltage (anyway, a common 9V battery must be enough, for the current needed from a PHR diode).

Thanks. Does anyone sell the LM1117 driver assembled? just curious. Also: is a default focusable lenze usually from Aixiz or something else? Thanks in advanced!
Photo's soon, of basic idea.

S1 is momentary, S2 is safety, Laser housing shouldn't be too much bigger than the housing of the lighter, but i will modify the housing of the lighter to fit. Driver should fit "somewhere" inside the lighter, and the now 3 volt=2 (or if i need more will add more) button cells, which should lead to cheap replaceing/replacement and space saving. (also just realised that S2's connections and battery connections need to be changed. unless ya guys think that will work)

one more thing!: now i know blueray was used in the video, however, is there a better diode for this situation that will give the same "ouput" and "desired results" i would preferably stay away from IR, sense...it would be dangerous if someone didn't see it and wasn't sure if it was active.

3rd times the charm!: (pps) where is the best place to buy aixis modules?
So replacing the button cell batteries he's using (which are a whopping 11.4mm diameter) i will be using 1.5V A10 batteries, which have a "long life" expectancy, and a lot smaller diameter (which is perfect for fitting in snug places)
Any recomendations?

I recommend you buying aixiz modules from aixiz.

Aha, thanks :), i allready got around to buying a module from them :p i just wasn't so sure for price ranges i checked for the cheapest i could buy.
(total project cost atm ~~=40 bucks)

you asked for the 1117 driver assembled. Jib77 has they, dunno pricing but around $20 IMO. Capable of 1A and maybe even fits inside aixiz. Do a search on buy sell trade forums, there he opened a thread about it.

I would so go after that, by far, better looking driver: however atm its fixed to 1.3A, how easily would i be able to "change" that driver so that it can go from 1.3A to 120mA so i don't blow my Laser diode.

with 120mA you risk blowing up your diode. Did you read what I said on the other thread?
limit yourself to 100mA. That will give you a working laser for years, not hours. You will need 12.5ohms at the driver for 100mA. Ask jib.

oh, my bad, i read somewhere else that you can easily drive at 120, maybe it was mW not mA xD. Ok, should i send him a pm, or just post on his forrum?

Send him a PM, I don't think he will like to have it public. Say that leodahsan referred you, and that you need something around 90~110mA. He *MAY* do it for you.

Thank you for your help Leo, if you don't mind me calling you that for short. Now onto the issue of getting protective glasses. And perhaps a "protective housing" that is made of the same protective glasses that will keep the laser from "extending" too far. and make it detachable for cases where you would want to etch your name in something.

No problem, I prefer like that ;)
If you want goggles and you think someday you will get a greenie, ask Garoq about the eagle pair goggles. 3 days and they are on your house (if you live in USA) and they protect from blu-ray, blue, blue dpss and green. Ask him some pictures or take a search.. they are worth the price.

If you're talking about 'finishing' the laser beam, you should consider a small tube with a white ending inside, because 100mW isn't that much for a professional beam dump, for the sake of the budget :D
Putting glasses permanently there could damage they, as the good quality ones are 'absorb' type. Damage = expensive ;)

some sort of a white tube then...i'll look into it and see what i can find, would be epic if it works out great, and/or make the top child proof. Also: anyone know where to buy those "be-careful laser" stickers that are usually on laser pointers?
