Thanks Everyone. I will keep you all informed as I bust my HD-DVD drive apart and get the diode out. Appreciate the responses on pin out.

I also have a DX True 30mw green on the way and a couple other things. Now to dig out some LM317's....

One final question. To get the 803 to lase I should use 38ma and then with proper heatsinking can go up to about 100ma safely? Does this sound about right?

Welcome to LPf Jules,
like Ur Diode ref avitar. Good work.

Yes, start at 40ma then shut off and creep up at bit then turn on again and measure, the max current is safe at 90 I hear.

Report is 2 Weeks cont at 120ma I think.

Thanks on the Avitar. Dude, I got my first Laser from Edmund in the late 70's. I grew up in New Jerey and could drive there. THey had pretty wicked light shows in those days. I went to Stockton State College in NJ too. We used to make XY galvo's out of speakers and drive them with oscillators. I plan on replicating that setup when I get all setup. It made pretty good lissajous patterns although we never drove it with a DA and tried to make real pictures.

This is my Mid Life Crisis coming on....

Question for a New Person (I have a solid electronics background) Does anyone have the p[in out or connections for this diode? My tracking for the HD-DVD drive shows it will be here monday. THansk for the discount codes too!

Jules

This picture is spread throughout this list.  I do not even have recorded who originally drew it.  This is the pinout for the 803t.

I thought I would also add that the 'possibly photo-diode' pin in the picture is not a photo-diode, but just a case connection. This way, if you are putting it in a slim host and would like to run the current through the case itself, you can use that pin to make it either case positive or case negative. I'm 99.9999999999999999->% sure its your meter. There is no super accurate way to calculate based on another wavelength setting. There can be 'dud' diodes, but usually these are underpowered my maybe 10mW max. If that diode is only putting out half power, I'm sure it would have never made it into the drive to begin with. [/quote]

OK maybe not super accurately, but you can measure with the 405nm on a LPM-1 according to them. But each meter will be slightly different.

I just checked the second diode, and this one is reading above 50! so its just a dim diode, or its hurting from heat, vibration or something...

ok hi i was wondering if the aixiz modules from dx are the same size as normal aixiz modules or are they some how different. i ordered a few for my upcoming project and i need them to be a spicific size.

any info will help thanks guys

Yes, those are the laser diodes, IIRC, the one on the left is the BR one. No you don't need the lens, it's alright, though IIRC it's partially fresnel and will add ugly rings around the beam. also quite hard to mount. Use an aixiz module with the acrylic lens it comes with.

Yes, the DX modules are the same size as the aixiz ones, within a mm anyways.

It's easy to tell which is the blu-ray. The blu-ray diode only has three pins. The IR/Red has four pins.

I'm trying to figure out how this would work in a pen setup. How do you use the case connection pin? Let's say that the case is going to act as the negative terminal, like in green dpss lasers. Would you solder the case pin to the negative pin and the positive pin the the driver positive out? I'm so confused!

Well, I think I have success. I will have to wait until I get the driver. I did a photo shoot during extraction and will write it up. Here are two shots of the final outcome...

Anyone recognize this diode?
