Yes, that will gives most accurate results.

If someone with a scope is to test say 2 different boards, with different caps( 1 is the original) (2 is increased output cap(L+,GND) preferably X5R) or maybe more variations.

I think the startup spike can be eliminated with a bigger output cap value.

I will add this thread in for another data point. I had a 12x 405 build with a linear driver that was working fine, and I stole that linear driver for a red build and tried to rebuild the laser with a benboost and killed three diodes in rapid succession.

At the time I attributed it to some kind of building error on my part, but after reading these threads I am starting to think that maybe I was an early victim of the benboost/12x405 incompatibility problem.

I can't say for sure that is the case, but I do want to add this to consider...

I'm planning to drive a wonderful M-140 from DTR at 1013mA with a benboost... Should I reconsider or would it be fine since the problems seem to be for the single mode diodes?

You should be fine because the spike wouldn't be enough to kill that diode

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm still waiting for the driver to arrive though, cilegray seems to be MIA for the last few days.

I am very very sorry guys... I have been having all kinds of problems recently. First it was the GF... then it was a close friend of mine having a horseback riding accident, which ended up with a broken vertabrae, 2 operations and a chance that she's going to lose her legs.

I spent a few days in montreal, where all I could do is check emails and messages on my phone.

I have 4 pending orders... at this point, all drivers are assembled and ready to go out but none have yet. I have been overwhelmed these past days/weeks to the point of neglecting much of (if not everything) online.

At this point, I will communicate via PM with everyone who's ordered from me. I am willing to compensate for the time lost, and send some extras... or proceed with a full refund, no problemo.

Again, I am sorry for REALLY coming up short with these last orders. For anyone who's sent me money in the last 2 weeks or so, check PMs.

Dang, that is serious problems you have there.
You have to set things straight in real life. The few drivers that are missing, it is not the end of the world. I hope it turns well with the accident.
