Well last night I pulled an all nighter experimenting with this shitty <5mw driver I got out of a red laser level. I attached it to the DT diode I have and to my surprise, it glowed a bit. I then stuck it in a huge knock off mag light and fitted the diode and driver in a Chinese module my friend got off ebay with his green laser which I was asked to fix because someone dropped it:crackup: cruddy thing. Anyways the flashlight fit 3 D batteries. This produced a slight glow, I wanted more so I took 4 C batteries and they fit so I turned it on and to my surprise it was lasing with a <5mw red driver:yh: So I brought it to school and showed some friends my very dull laser, I think it got dimmer when had to re solder some wires the night before as I could see a faint beam before, then the driver shitted out again at school while I was playing with more batteries. Ok so I get home and take two cordless phone batteries(3.6V each) and wire them up together, the diode lit up very brightly but I could tell from video's and photos here it wasn't enough to kill it or anything. So I am pretty sure I killed the little driver:crackup: Does anyone know of any common electronics with parts I could use to build a circuit, I have broken 360s, PS2's and shit loads of computer parts and other electronics I would be willing to salvage. I saw that laser and I am addicted so I would really like to fix it without spending any money. I know how to solder like I said, lots of spare electronics willing to donate. Do any common things have the right parts to make a driver?

Ah and for those of you wondering if you can use a <5mw red driver for a 405nm, yes you can, but within reason and make sure you have good connections and contacts.

Any help is appreciated.

Yeah, I already know about that driver and how to make it I was just wondering if I could find the parts in stuff I currently own because I can't buy anything right now.

We have no clue what "stuff" you have....

How could we possibly tell you "if you could find the parts in stuff you currently own"...:wtf:

The parts needed are VERY cheap already. Each component should cost you a matter of cents. Do you have a radioshack nearby? A radioshack should have all the parts you need for 5<$<10 total.

@lasersbee, I said I had xbox 360s and PS2's and lots of computer parts.
@Meatball, we no longer have a radio shack in Canada, well re renamed it here to The Source by circuit city, maybe they thought it would attract more customers. I owe my parents money so that's why I have none. I saved my lunch money today so I could go out and buy some parts. Thing is that it seems to be very expensive and I can't even find the LM317 regulator on their web site. Who knows they could have it but they might not.

So 2 10ohm in assorted pack resistors=$0.96 EDIT=only need one for 405nm but still would be the same price if they don't sell singles.
Capacitors according to their web site only are a 50v assortment with 2@$5.99 and a pack for $7.99 of randoms up to 50V.
1n4001 pack of 2=$3.99
the only regulator they have is a 7805 for $4.99
assorted pots is $0.96

With tax this is 21.35$ and I don't even get the desired LM317.

Does whats in store vary on the website because their are so many different parts, I mean it's radio shack, just renamed. Don't see why they wouldn't have them and why they would be that expensive if so. That's without the 4.99 breadboard btw.
