Hiya LPF folks, just talking to Susie, and they recently listed this product
http://o-like.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8&products_id=37

By the characteristics data, I'd conclude that they are SF-AW210 diodes they also sell...
However, if factory ratings are 150mW, we forum guys are known to push them way above that, aren't we?

:D

If anyone knows anything about those diodes, lemme know, and I will inform Susie to post good info on the website.

IgorT did some testing on some Nichias but I don't think these are the same ones.

I suppose it can be the NDV4313, or at least is the only one with similar characteristics, that i've found on Nichia catalogs ..... if so, it's a 120mW CW rated diode in TO18, with 140mW CW rated absolute maximum rating ..... this one, i mean .....

Spec sheet is on the site I linked, it says the number.

Well, 140mW CW apsolute ratings...
PHR is rated at 40mW , so what? :D
I could be wrong, though!

EDIT:
BVD405140 <- says right above the table.
Does it help?

No, sorry, no similar part numbers on Nichia site, at least the one that i can open from here

LASER DIODEs : NICHIA Corporation

This is their laser diode page ..... is always possible, anyway, that this particular diode is a "custom" model, made for some manufacturer, that they have sold for having extra production, or maybe cause the original manufacturer don't need them anymore, but in this case, there's no way for know this, cause Nichia never release these types of informations ..... i just supposed that it was the NDV4313, or very similar, cause part of the values (ITh and operating voltage, as example), are the same .....

Also, the part number BVD405140, is not in any of the datasheets that i have here, nor in any of the ones that i can access from here, so i'm not sure, sorry .....

Don't worry about it, I'm sure that Dave and Igor knows something about those.

For $80 I expect 250mW +... or else they are not worth it.
GGWs are already available for $40 here and able to spit out a decent 200mW power.

weird too, because aren't the diodes listed as higher mW cheaper? That's what threw me off and why I'm hesitating.

If you mean the '300mW 6x SF-AW210 diode'
Then you are wrong.

Well, I can tell you that SF diodes are not to be driven above 170mA, which results in LESS THAN 200 mW at best.

GGW 6x diodes, however, are proven to be driven SAFE at 220mA, giving power levels way above SFs.

However, this '140mW' diode is rather a mystery since it does not come from any standard sled, it is sold as a diode alone (not harvested).

By looking at the reference sheet, I'd conclude it being close to GGW, but the price is not justified in such case.

That's what I was saying, 200mW > 140mW, so there must be some other reason why these diodes being advertised as weaker are more expensive.
I understand that the AW210 is thought of as not as robust as other diodes in its class.

GGW 6x diodes, however, are proven to be driven SAFE at 220mA, giving power levels way above SFs.

If anybody ever got one, they could submit the barcode to the bluray barcode thread, might provide some clues. I'm just window-shopping there, but when (if?) this boosted 10mW bluray burner dies, that GGW sure looks nice

I cannot give you the specifics of the diode because I am not the one who tested them. IgorT tested at least one. You can probably find his posting with some searching.

However, the bottom line is this --

IgorT tested the diode from O-Like and he does NOT use them. The GGW is a better deal.

Peace,
dave

Yes I did searching before that thread was posted (when I was young).

IgorT tested a '110mW' rated Nichias... or were they 105mW?
They have proven to sustain over 200 mW with good life, like GGWs.

These could be even better.
I don't think anyone tested THESE yet, since O-like added them to stock only hours before the thread was up, as I asked Susie about them when I saw them,
She replied hwo fast I was, she just finished uploading them to the website.

She also mentioned that day that no one from LPF purchased these, as far as she knows.

Dave, what kind of aproximation of these diodes abilities would you make?

Well -- At a minimum, they are NOT "brand new" to O-Like as Susie told you

http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/new-o-like-nichia-140mw-diode-46643.html

That is with only 30 seconds of searching. I have a new class to lecture this afternoon, so I cannot do much more online now

IIRC IgorT did NOT buy it directly from O-Like. He was testing it for a store owner from another forum.

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** I remembered one of them just as I was walking away

http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/fake-150mw-nichia-diodes-being-sold-42486.html

In that one, IgorT talks about testing the O-Like one as well. It is in there somewhere

Oh crap.

Didn't notice the first thread before, however I saw that IgorTs thread.

But they are not those fake ones, are they?

Anybody here bought them?

Not gone yet ;)

Here's another one

http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/150mw-cw-nichia-diode-lsp-41536.html

They look like and perform like the diodes from the SF-AW210 sled (low 6X).

So they are not "new" even to O-Likes site and others like them have tested out to SF-AW210 levels.

I would be very careful with these. The harvested SF-AW210 diodes are only ~$40 IIRC

Peace,
dave

Well I'll be damned.

So it appears to be a normal SF-AW diode?
Crap.

Susie will not be thrilled when she hears this.
