I finally built one of my PHR modules (and my ever-decreasingly sized DDL drivers -- it's down to a footprint hardly bigger than the LM317) into a decent(ish) host.

Also, I set the diode correctly! I should have taken people seriously when they said to make sure that a 405nm is more than flush with the AIXIZ setting. I can actually focus this one! And I thought having a big blurry dot at 5' was just an inevitable feature of bluray diodes  !

I've got one more PHR813T left, which I plan on building with a variable-current driver, with its max set at 250mA (not that I intend to actually run it that high). What kind of experiences have people had driving this diode it currents higher than 125mA? I'm just looking for anecdotes; I'm sure someone here has graphed it well...

Thanks! I just finished building the other one, and I've been running it at ~250mA. Hasn't blown yet, though I'm under no illusion that it's long for this world...I fear it a bit, so I added a pot before the resistors in case I lose my nerve.

Hay dvorhagen I have a heat sink that would work perfect for the laser. it is 1" dia and about 3/4" thick 12mm hole in the center for the aixiz module, with a set screw to hold the module in. I will ship it to you for $12.00 pm me if interested.

THats a great build you have there, I'm waiting to get some cash for a laptop repair, then I'm able to by the parts for the DDL driver. Its tempting to run it at 125mA but it seems some PHR's are dying at this current. so I'm gonna go with around 100mA. though I dont have a host to put it in yet..... But thats by the by i guess. It won't be run for long periods.

Hey Eghemus, just wanna say you do some amazing work, your hosts look superb and professional. Even that little Aixiz heatsink looks good. I hope sometime in the future I can get one of these hosts.

Thanks! I'm trying to decide what to do for my next laser project...I've got two LPCs burning a hole in my pocket (so to speak).

PBS cube + 2 LOCs, (from the LPC sled) = 500mW!!!!

There's a project for you!
