Hi, I am new to this forum, this is my second post. I have been around lasers as a hobby for about 20 years. I have played with ruby, Nd, HeNe, Dye, DPSS etc. My latest build is a Blu Ray diode laser using a Star Trek Phaser 1 ( the small phaser). It came out OK, but I can see areas where it can be improved.
Components used:
PHR diode
FlexDrive
JayRob 405 G-1 lens
LiPo single cell
Left overs from the toy phaser
Anyway, made a video of it working kind of fun. Since I am new the system won't let me post links in the correct way so go to YouTube manually

Also dug up a video from about 10 years ago of me firing a Q-Switched Ruby laser
youtube.com/watch?v=zH0-H1g72lc&feature=channel_page
About 2MW pulse, 15nS long, quarter inch dia beam, no optics (other than mirrors) q-switch actually works, that is the whining noise in the video, input power is about 200 joules. Death trap construction. I eventually mounted it into a container, then later sold the parts on EBAY so I could buy a Porsche.
